Air Cooled Husky 500XC
I've been working on this one for a while. It's an '83 Husky 500 XC.
Some stuff is hard to find, some is easy. I can get a Wiseco piston in three oversizes for this beast, but can't get one for my '95 KTM 550MXC. Go figure?
This one got stripped to the bare frame, and it and the fork legs were powdercoated.
The forks were rebuilt, but I'm still looking for a set of Husky Products damper rods. Someday. The shocks still need to redone, but aren't leaking yet. Just way to softly sprung.
I put in new swingarm and steering head bearings. A NOS Nordisk wheel was laced to the front hub. I still have to replace the wheel bearings and seals, but they're not here yet.
A NOS seatcover and new foam reuphostered the seat. I also had to find an airbox, which is a bit of a PITA on these old bikes.
The tank still needs to be repainted, but I'm not going to do that until I have the new decals for the tank and plastics in hand. Since the thing is dent free, I might just put a Clarke on it so I don't wreck it. Finding an undented tank (they're aluminum ) would he kinda tough.
The motor was all redone. New piston, bearings and seals. It has a 44mm Mikuni carb on it. Runs sweet. It's a six speed, so the thing is quite fast.
So, it's 99% there. Another few hours of tinkering, and she's ready to rip it up one more time.
