I recently bought an 04 FE650 with very low hours. Bergs are great bikes and I wanted to own one of the 650s before they went away. I pick it up next week.
I have a few questions for you. In one of your posts you stated that you were running for 3 days for changing the oil. Do have exapnded capacity? I think that stock is about a liter of oil. And how may hours do you think that you are putting on before an oil change? How may hours should the average trail rider run between changes? And what type of oil are you using? Great thread. It's about time that someone did this.

I would change the oil every 500-700km depending on your use. In a rallye, usually about 600-800km per day, I change the oil & filter each day. Standard oil capacity is 1 L.

I didn't really recognise them as Berg's till I came across this photo.
Only kidding . I am impressed with the new Bergs and came close to buying one back in '03 but went the KaTooM route instead. I'd happily buy one now if I had a hankering to change. The '08 looks horn - can't wait to have a good look at yours when it's set up for the Safari. You really should throw in a photo of you on your Berg from the Safari last year. Kind of complete the picture. Quote:

Dakar 2005 Rob van Pelt FE550
Rob ran a very bare bones FE550 in the 2005 Dakar, a bit too bare as it turned out !
He had competed in and finished in the Dakar perviously and tried it in 2005 on a very stripped down FE550, no electric starter, no bash plate etc etc. It seems he was going for ultra light weight. For awhile that seemed to be working well for him as he was running in (up to 8th outright !) and just oustide of the top 10 in the early stages, but holed the water pump outlet on Day 7 and blew the headgasket when the bike ran out of water and he didnt realise it. It's a pity as he was a very good chance of a high placing overall. ![]() Bike in Parc Ferme at the start of the event. ![]() At the start, looks like it is using Mecsystem tanks. Does anyone have any/know of other photos ??

There have been a couple of other notable Husaberg Rallye riders
If anyone knows any details, photos or links on these or any other Husaberg rallye bikes or riders, be keen to hear from you

He built and prepared these bikes for Annie and Alain (and Coke's for that matter)... He was also the team manager for all Perez' FIM World Cup Rally he participated in between '99 and 2003... and has even had a "finger in the pie" of Nygren och Jansson's Husabergs at one time or the other... so he is pretty much the "guru" on the blue and gold... as far as Rallies go. I'm sure he'll be glad to give you some info.

Nice thread and photo's SafariBerg!
If I decide to keep my 650 Berg I might set it up as a rallye bike. Currently I'm getting a 180 mile capacity with the Clarke tank and underseat tank. If I use both Mecca Systems rear tanks I should be getting over 255 miles. |
