Mi Vale Madre and Live2Ride's 08 Baja ADVenture. An open invitation
Last novemember, I posted in the regional section (NWet) that my Dad (Burt Gunn, aka Mi Vale Madre) and I were going to Baja and if anyone would like to join us in march. Well, the response was bigger then I thought it would be. We crossed the border on the 4th of march with 21 people and met up with a couple more in route.
We all met up in Yuma Az. Some showed up early and some showed up the night before we left. This is probably going to drag out for quite some time as many people will be posting there pics. I know I took over 500 pics. Some will end up on the cutting room floor, but most won't. So, sit back, kick your shoe's off and enjoy the ride..... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sam and Dad... ![]() Travis, Jim and Kevin.... ![]() ![]() Clint.... ![]() Al kept telling me he had a special guest with him. He swung by Bakersfield and picked up Bacon. Bacon started out in Australia and made his way to the states, and was grid locked in Bakersfield, so Al stopped by and got him so he could continue his journey.... ![]() Well, I have started the thread, so people, jump in and start posting your pics. If you have any from the morning we left, please post them, like a dumbass, I forgot to take any.......

Well first off glad you made it home in one piece and let's all hope Pat is going to be OK!
Now, as Tim stated he threw up an open invitation for some of us wintered out getting the snow blues folks a out and I for one jump at the opportunity and as time went by had reservations as to the whole enterprise, but after meeting this loose consortium of misfits glad I came along. There were three of us who elected to load the rides and head south to Yuma and then unload for the ride Clint (CBMMA69) Jim (JimE) and I. Here's the load ![]() going through Nevada we decided it was the proper decision looks cold ![]() Next day we arrive in summer warm Yuma ![]() Travis shows up and we give him a hand unloading ![]() Clint discovered a minor set back like his DRZ wouldn't charge but his tenuous demeanor a two beers later resolved that problem. ![]() As the day goes on the gathering gets larger ![]() Tim provided us with nothing but 5 star accommodations in which to acclimate us to Mexico ![]() I had to stay up late and drink more beer cause no one would get off my bed. ![]() For some who followed this tread from the PNW you may remember the XR basket case, well he got together and a mighty fine job he did too; All the way from East Texas. ![]() The day before departure still waiting for Ladybug and Sunnyside to show ![]() The night before leaving we invade the local pizza joint and take over ![]() THE MORNING OF ![]() So what do you think?...I don't know what you think...hey I asked first! ![]() I don't want a nickel I just want to ride on my motorcycle... ![]() ![]() OK next

![]() We had this great plan where you watch the person behind you. If you make a turn, and don't see the rider behind you, you stop. That lasted about 2 blocks after crossing the border. The larger group in front managed to lose the last 7 riders. This is the Lost 7... ![]() After a couple hours, we find my Dad sitting along side the road waiting for us. The rest of the group were up the road at a bank waiting. Dad had a flat. ![]() While he was changing his tube, 3 kids popped their heads up on the other side of the road.... ![]() Within a few minutes, the rest of the kids showed up.....

We head out to Algodones, MX heres the border coming up
![]() The Border guards were friendly " Hey welcome to Mexico we're open 24 hours a day ...no cover charge any time" Once over I quickly lreaned about how proud they are of "ALTO signs and "Topes" I believe this is how we ended up getting split up. Let's see go-stop-go-left turn right turn stop-go-right, right, left -stop...you get the picture. ![]() Wow me made it to the outskirts of town cool; where's the rest of the group? ![]() Burt lead us on down to Guadeloupe Victoria and said this is a banko with an ATM inside wait there I'll be back ![]() An hour later he was back, as Tim's aforementioned Burt had a little setback. moving on one of the better homes

I left Friday morning 2/29, I rode down I-5 from Beaverton. Nothing special until I hit the border.
![]() Mt Shasta Hey what is all this white stuff on the ground? Glad I had the heated gear. ![]() ![]() I was going to stay at Shasta Lake ![]() Hey wheres the water? I decided to push on since they wanted $18 to camp with pit toilets and no showers. As I headed South I could see some hills to the west and I figured I could do some stelth camping up there. After I headed west and found myself in a OHV area, I was climbing to the ridge tops and the temp and the sun were droping. With the wind blowing I figured I should start heading down hill, I found a 2 track heading down and I followed it. This is where I decided to stop a steep down hill there was flat spot and I figured I had found home since the sun had set and I wasn't going back up or down now. After setting up camp I talked to Toyanvil about getting Bacon and went to bed. I got up in the morning packed up drove up and down the hill My camp ![]() The road going up ![]() The road going down ![]() http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...UTF8&z=12&om=1 I started heading South, I was planning on heading to 101 and following it down the coast. When I got into wine county the weather turned sour and I decided to Slab it to Bakersfield to get Bacon. Mrs Toyanvil delivered Bacon and some cookies to my Hotel. ![]() I slabbed most of the way to Yuma from there, fighting head and cross winds the whole way, I did make a side trip to Big Bear just to get off the ![]() When I got to Yuma I called Tim and waited for him to lead me the last couple of miles to the Trailer. ![]() Monday I changed the rear tire, Thanks Tim for throwing yourself under the bike when it fell off the center stand. Tuesday we were ready to go. ![]() After the group got split up some folks headed over to the Pemex to get gas ![]() No, no gas to be had, we headed down the road and found gas Hey Rick any gas over there? ![]() Hey Burt any idea where they are? He doesn't have any idea either
