04 950 Starter electrical glitch.

04 950adv Sarter glitch.

The ignition switch went ''Caput'' when starting the bike yesterday after a few months rest; it acted up twice last summer & simply turn the key off/on to get it working again but, this time, after a couple of shots of the starter button, everything died &, when I turned the key to ''Off'', the digital instrument panel went ''Haywire'' with the key turned halfway between the off & on position.

I bypassed the key ignition switch by jumpwiring its female counterpart connector of the main wiring harness.

On this connector there are:

- 3 Red/white wires coming from the start relay & regulator/rectifier

- One Red wire→fuse box→Yellow/blue wire→digital instrument panel ...after branching out to brake switches/horn/flasher relay/speed sensor/neutral indicator light

- One Yellow/red wire→fuse box→Yellow wire→branching out to light switch & Hi/lo switch

- One Orange wire→splitted in 3 (A,B,C)→fuse box→

------ Orange A→fuse box→Blue/orange wire→Kill switch
------ Orange B→fuse box→Blue/white wire→Cooling fan
------ Orange C→fuse box→Yellow/blue wire→Fuel pump relay→Black/blue wire→Fuel pump→Brown wire→Start relay

Here's the problem:

When I connect any of the 3 Red/white wires to the Orange, the instrument panel goes ''haywire'' with an array of fuck'up readings & a crackleling buzzing sound &, pressing the starter button, barely adds a couple of faint clicks from the Sart relay.

I verified all fuses (including the Main fuse on the Start relay) + connectors as best as I could to no avail &
put the battery charger to the battery (on the bike); it's indicating that the battery is fully charged but, now, I'm getting a strong rapid fire clicketing from the Start relay when pressing the Starter button.

Kill switch Off: (with or without Battery charger)
-Instrument panel working as it should.

With battery charger connected to the battery on the bike at ''Normal'' charge & Kill switch ''On''.

Disconnected fuel pump:
- Normal click from Instrument panel
- Pressing the starter button gives a rapid fire clicketing sound from the Start relay
& the instrument panel goes ''haywire'' only while pressing the stater button.

Connected fuel pump:
-Instrument panel is ''Haywire''
-Fuel pump a'pumpin
-Pressing the starter adds a rapid fire clicketing from Start relay.

After doing this,
I reconnected the ignition key switch (just to see) &, now, the key switch is functionning perfectly but the rest of the goin'ons are still going on & the starter still doesn't turn.

WTF?...

-Wire ''Short''?....
-Starter relay?....
-Pump relay?....
-Battery?....
-Digital instrument panel?....
&,
Please, don't tell me ''the ECU'' !!!!

Btw,
Even tried it with my old Fuel Pump which forked out the same results ...for the exception that it wasn't pumping, of course. (that's why it's the ''old'' fuel pump)

I'm a complete ''bozo'' when it comes to electricity & electronics & my Multimeter is shot for ''battery checking''; don't really know how to use it for anything else, anyway.

So,...
Any ideas on the cause of the problem or on ways of finding it?

Thanks!
