What kind of POIs are you looking for and where? South America is a big country. I was in Peru a few months back, and I nabbed a few waypoints of my hostels and where I parked my bike. Maybe a couple of touristy spots, too.

Buy a guide book perhaps?
For POI as you call them, we don't all speak Acronymese fluently, I think I'd go with lonely planet guide books for that.
thread jack..... On acronym's is it not proper to do this...... Hey I am looking for help on different Points Of Interest (POI) for S. America. Particulary ruins, hotels, restaurants and hookers... Please categorize your POI's as such. Thanks....... Ok I can see not doing that in very common acronyms but

All about GPS in Brazil
My friends no more trouble, just go to www.tracksource.org.br and download for free the most complete brazilian file for roads, dirtroads and poi and all of it is routeable.
