Me too
Oh boy, There is one of these that just sits rusting for about the last year and a half in a churchparking lot by my house. I would love to get ahold of it and make the rat version of this bike. Different seat and different colors maybe, but I love the exhaust and everything else.
Anyone else have any other pictures of cafed cx's? Would love to see them.... Maybe ill go down and have a talk with the gent who owns that bike again...last I spoke to him he wanted $500 for it despite its obviously poor condition, but that was before it sat outside in the chicago winter- and it hasnt been started for 2 years. Its a shame really.

Who'da thunk a person could make that bike look cool?
Very impressive work!

I took one of those pigs out to Colorado on a 3000 mile ride a few years ago.
Good bike. Had a hard time keeping it over 70, but the only thing that the bike did wrong was consume 1/4 qt oil |

Just goes to show, every bike has potential to be transformed into something desirable.
I've always respected that bike's dependability, but passed on the styling. Makes a damn good cafe, though.

By looks, naturally.
I think the cafe genre, like the bobber, originated out of free or cheap mods - mostly removing stuff to strip weight and improve performance. Coupled with some functional changes to ergos and stuff. All of it came to be defined by the "look" more than by which bikes actually were the fastest from cafe to cafe or bar to bar. All of this was debated at length in that recent thread/firestorm about cafe bikes - you know the one So like many other bike genre, the look becomes the goal more or less. So even though the performance is ho-hum, the CX 500 is a good starting point for an aesthetically pleasing cafe looking bike. Edit: Oh yeah, the GL1000 - I have seen a couple in private collections that made good looking cafe bikes - and there have been some that were made surprisingly fast.
