Shopping for Odyssey Batteries in Oz
It's winter in Tassie.
The R1100GS needs a new battery - how do I know ? While it will start okay ( albeit slowly ), the ABS will fault and refuses to run through it's test application until it's been running for about 15 minutes. Pain in the arse removing the tank to recharge.
Let's buy an Odyssey and ( hopefully ) fit and forget for a few years.
Bags of the PC 680 ( MJ ) on ebay in the USA, some sellers are willing to ship worldwide, bottom line approx. $60US and postage $35US, plus any applicable duty and a 3 month wait via surface mail.
NO, I need a battery now !
The Part number PC 680 is not recognised by the Aussie distributor who imports and repackages. They are called an ES 650 here in Oz and come with the metal jacket.
There is even a free call1800 number for info........ 1800 550 153
Can't remember the name of the bloke there who assisted me, but no worries on the info front, very informed as well as helpful. you can get all the info required on chargers etc to suit as well.
Shopped around for a good price - this ranged from $265 down to..........
$169.65 plus postage ( for me anyway )
Made the buy at a place called Battery Specialties in Braeside, Melbourne.
their phone number 03 9587 2101. I spoke to Shaun, a helpful and obliging fella.
Compared to the GENUINE BuMW gel battery ( Exide brand ) at $160 plus freight and a 1 year warranty, the Odyssey has a 2 year warranty for a similar price.
Yep, I've purchased one, should do the job for both the R1100GS and even the R80G/S PD.
Currently, the Aussie distributor is out of stock ( until around the end of June ), Battery Specialties have 11 in stock as of today.
