Murray Sunset National Pk: North to South fully loaded!
Underbool Burger Run 2008 The call was out from the Riverland Burger-Muncher, Bazzz to repeat the success of the last 2007 Hattah Burger Run. (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249010) So the Boulia Burger Busters (ie the Birdsville/Winton/Innamincka 2007 trio: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...77#post5385177) were reassembled.Masterbrewer ( aka: Old C--- / Wise Ol' C--- ) ; Rick ( aka: Young C--- ) & Bazzz ( aka: Grumpy C--- ) ![]() Now for those who don't appreciate the "Aussie Outback slang", you may substitute the letters "h a p" for the last three letters in the above aka's. We were joined at Walkers Flat on the Murray River by Damien & Josh on 250's & their ginormous backpacks which, in Josh's case included his extra 10 litres of fuel. ![]() On last years burger run we had a ball, although there were in fact no burgers available at Hattah, as the proprietors were on holidays. However by all reports this year, all-be-it from the proprietor of the Underbool Burger store, Underbool has better burgers anyway, so the decision was made to head south across the Sunset sand dunes instead of running parrallel with them along Pheeneys Track. Still cautious about our previous dissappointment on missing good "Adventure tucka" last year, we tackled these before entering the park through the Taplin Gate![]() ![]() Avoiding bike marauding roos; emus; cattle; sheep & goats & the occasional mud holes for fun, we headed along Settlement Road past the Shearers Hut before turning south to Rocket Lake ![]() ![]() First rest stop was at Rocket Lake camp ground ![]() Who are you calling "Burger Belly" mate? ![]() In was then the fun really began ![]() The tracks alternated between easy fun riding stuff & the more challenging ![]() ![]() ![]() We were fortunate that Mopke Hut was free for the night, as it apparantly can't be pre-booked ![]() ![]() There was even a taxi service to the long drop ![]() Despite bad weather reports for the weekend, our sunset was fantastic & the only rain we encounted was when we were inside eating at Loxton & overnight at the hut. ![]() Bazzz decided to write his Eleventh Commandment for all to obey ![]() ![]() All in favour? ![]() The bed springing left a bit to be desired though! ![]() Papa Smurf paid a visit in the morning too ![]() Then it was further south into the dunes ![]() ![]() ![]() Although the sand was wet, it still caused a few challenges for the heavily laiden bigger bikes as we headed to the Mount Jess Track ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Finally the Underbool Burger Shop ![]() But wouldn't you know it.................................... no one was hungry, but we promised the store owner we would be back.He is currently negotiating out of his current fuel contract and had no fuel available for us anyway so we continued onto Murrayville to their service station which looked as old as the chap hobbling out to serve us ![]() Bazzz pulled up on one side of the pump while I pulled in on the otherside to combined our requirements. However on checking the amounts we noticed this; ![]() ![]() Thinking we would play it smart we got the guy to read the lowest side, but on calculating the litres & $ he still ripped us off. Later we were all to find out that everyone's mileage was somewhat 30kms less per tank than with other fuel...............................mmmmmmm diluted fuel too we suspect On to Pinnaroo we managed to beat two bus loads of tourist for lunch & had a cruisy ride up to Paruna where we encounted the only other showers while we made our last cuppa before leaving Bazzz to head back to Renmark. ![]() The route from the National Parks map ![]() Check out the view from Google Earth of our trip at the bottom left of this page; http://picasaweb.google.com/masterbr...lBurgerRun2008 Another fabulous trip & looking to the future. Cya again soon Cheers TDMKym

G'day MB, another great ride report & good photos (as usual). I'm damn keen to come along on a ride like this soon. My fault, as I should visit www.advrider.com a bit more & keep an eye on what you've got planned. Cheers, Sol..
