Circuit of the Baltic Spring 2009
Early stages of planning a trip to 'circumnavigate' the Baltic in April/May 2009. Only have three weeks so may cut some corners although if preliminary arrangements work out, that three weeks may start from being in Stockholm giving me more flexibility for the rest of the route and the possibility to take a little more time out. Unlikely to exceed 250 miles a day and my initial thoughts are ferry from Harwich to Esjberg then to Copenhagen - detour to Oslo - Stockholm - ferry to Turku - Helsinki - either ferry to Talinn or ride to St. Petersburg - Riga - Vilnius - possible detour to Belarus - Gdansk - Rostock - Ferry back from Esjberg. Anticipate 60% camping and 40% hotels.
Any recommendations or advice, do's or don'ts, links or previous experience very gratefully received. Specifically interested in hearing from anyone with experience of St. Petersburg (safety aspect) and Belarus (ease of visa arrangements). Thanks!
