My bike is still running great. I still have some soot/gas smell and have considered going to 145-150 mains and maybe dropping the pilot jet a step. |

Thanks Saul,
I'm gonna start w/ the 155/150 and see how it goes from there. I wonder what ever happened to the guy that had the portable air/fuel meter and was testing his 950 up Golden Gate Canyon. Curious to see what he ended up w/. I still don't understand why Fay jetts so rich using the dyno?

I'm still running 150/152 and middle clip... been as low as 1000' elevation and as high as 13,000 and it seems to be a great compromise.

So I finally got to test the new jetting today (150/155, middle position on the needle, fuel screw 2 turns out):
The bike runs great at the bottom and at the top, but has a bit of hesitation at 5K rpm, specially if you cut the throttle at high speed and then reapply the throttle. It feels a bit boggy for a bit then when it gets back up to 5.5K rpm it rips. Any suggestions? I'm assuming the fuel screws might need a tweak. which way should I go. The other issue is that the bike still gets crappy gas mileage. I was hoping to improve that by going a bit leaner. I did a 160 mile street loop today (Hwy 115, Co Springs, Woodland park, HWY 67, HWY 285,Home) and only averaged 29MPG, that sucks! This means I'll be in the low 20s in the dirt. Something has got to be off. I did have the air brake hard bags on and the throttle was stuck open.

I don't have any jetting info on my SE. The PO had a shop set it up. But it runs great and gets between 36 and 42 mpg. Maybe a little sluggish at very high elevations. For some reason climbing that last little bit on Engineer Pass makes several of my bikes act up. But on the level even up high the bike runs well.
Typically when KTM get really bad mileage it has to do with a sticky float.

In my 2007 SE I run 150/155, 2nd clip on the needle, and right at 2 turns out. I have a 2 into 1 setup with a MFM muffler with the baffle out. Oh yeah, no polution stuff. MPH with 16 tooth CS is right at 40.
Runs like a champ, although, it didn't like it a whole lot at the top of Red Cone (thanks to Will for the push) but it ran. We setup 4 2007 SE's and one thing I noticed was that one of the bikes (earlier production) only had 2 carb vents...where the rest had 4 (2 on each carb). Anyone else notice this? Why the difference? Dan

Any updates on the jetting:
Both my Adv and the SE ran 150/155, clip in the middle and 2 turns out and ran great, but MPG was abysmal. Had a hard time getting over 34 MPG even taking it easy. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks, Dan

No new ideas here, but glad to know I'm not the only one. Exact mileage from me and almost the same jetting.

Hell, 34 MPG is when I baby it. Most of the time I'm around 28 MPG.

Me too. If I really flog it- 22mpg, if I'm riding normally 28 or so. I did get over 40 on it a couple of times babying it on the pavement. Might've had a tail wind, too.

I'm throwing out the BS flag on those that claim 40 MPG!

I see 38 in normal commute mode. I see low to mid 30's in fun twisty mode. I see upper 20's in off pavement fun mode. I see +2mpg during the summer vs winter. I can tell when the gas changes at the gas station just by my idle. It is a 2005.5 adv with stock scorps at 36psi always. Bike has 35K miles on it. I use a 16T front sprocket. |

40.2 for me on a recent Idaho Springs-Parker-Idaho Springs commute. That's a few miles of frontage road and 3-lane stoplight traffic, the rest is I-70 and C-470. Damn highway. I don't even do mpg when offroad.
I forget the jets I have in there...145 and a 150? This is on a 908 rear, TKC80 front, stock exhaust, and 16 tooth c/s.

Bump! Roll call...........
I'll dig into the carbs in the next few days and see what the settings are. I've a horrible bucking and surging so YP has suggested that I've a blocked vent.........must have pinched something putting it together as it was clear before. I'll be doing the block off plates shortly and getting rid of the rest of the SAS stuff. I wonder if some sort of chart to follow would work.... who / where - altitude range / main jet front -rear/Fuel screw turns out / specialty kit? / pilot / SAS delete yes or no / exhaust set up / MPG / critique...........?
