F-800 GS vs. Dakar / sweetspot

I'm looking to replace my '03 Dakar with a F8. Dealer test rides do not allow for a long 80 mph test. Anything over 55 on the Dak causes the thumper buzzieness. If I ride the TLH or Alaska your talking 3-5 days of highway droning one way. My two up cross country highway machine is a 1800 Gold Wing so in addition to being an old geezer, I'm now a spoiled candy ass. My question is what speed range is the F-800 GS sweet spot for smooth highway crusing. I only ride two up on the Wing so I see no need for the 1200. Just looking for a solo long distance bike that will run the dirt after days of 75-80 mph drone. I'm too old now to get beat up with the Dakar day after day.

75 -80 is a cake walk on a GS, I had mine up to a buck ten last weekend two up. 80 mph all day long on the slab is absolutely no big deal. Just like the big pig, you will probably need to deal with the seat and windshield. I had an F650GS and sold it after 5K, not enough power and more buzzy than the 800GS.

I put a laminar lip on mine which makes it quiet to the point I can listen to my tunes barefoot from my zumo with no amp or intercom at 80 next to a semi. As for the seat, I'm happy with the stock seat.

I'm not old (50) but I can't wait to get a GW and join the Spoiled Candy Ass Riders! SCAR! I'm gonna start a web site. *edit* (can ya believe it? already taken! )
You could always throw some knobbies on the GW!

The extra power for highway cruising was the big kicker for me in deciding not to keep and rebuild my wrecked F650GS and buy the F800GS to replace it instead.
