Crossing America No Care Endurance Ride 2009
In the process of planning this ride for the May/June time frame. This will be a ride to celebrate being cancer free for one year (post chemo) after being diagnosed in early 2008 at age 22 with colon cancer. Also to celebrate graduation from college. So far I don't have a bike. Still trying to decide on what I want but will have a budget between the 6 and 7k range (looking closely at a Versys ). Just wanting to get some feed back on my plans so far.
I will be starting my trip in Mississippi but am planning to do a coast to coast ride. I will probably meander up through Eastern TN and hit the BRP. From there it will be on to Ocean City, MD for the start of US50. I plan to complete my coast to coast ride on US50. Anybody here ever completed the whole route? Just wondering how the riding was? Only place I want to detour to would be Moab. All in all I'm looking at about 6000+ miles. Planning to do around 250-400 miles a day and have about 3 weeks for the trip. Any suggestions on any other cross country routes that may be better? I think this is doable but I don't know if 3 weeks will be enough time. I'm wanting to try to keep a budget of $1500 which gives me about $70 a day (not including maintenance etc. Would probably have to stop for tires along the way) and will try to camp every night with a motel thrown in here and there.
Any body see anything wrong with my plans? I don't want to get caught up in planning every detail. I want this to be an adventure. Just want a base plan to get everything rolling....
