800gs tires: Scorpions vs Battle Wings
Hey Gang, first of I apologize if this question has already been asked, searched and found nothing. My 8gs has finally arrived at the dealership and is being prepped. Went to go see it today and the salesman advised me that it has Pirrelli Scorpion MT/90 tires instead of the usual Battle Wings. Says they are much better tires, but I really have no idea. Wondering if anyone else had a similar situation or experience with the Scorpions...
Cheers! |

don't know anything about the scorpions but they look more dirt worthy than the battle wings. for the road the BWs do a really good job but I'll never put them back on the bike since I want something more dirt oriented.

Scorps are excellent tires. Have on my 950 and won't use anything else.

When I checked with my local shop about using scorpions I found that they were not offered in the right size for the GS800's rear wheel.
Anyone know otherwise? |

Obviously they are messing with tire suppliers. Mine came fitted with Michelin Anakees.
Pirelli's web site only shows the new Scorpion Trail in the correct sizes for the F800GS. Could that be what your getting? |

Or perhaps they're mounting the 140/80s?

Just picked up my 800Gs on Tuesday, and it came with Scorpion Trails. They seem ok. Only did 200 km, mix of doubletrack, gravel, city streets and highway. I think they will get removed for TKC80's however.
My previous street bike was a DRZ400SM and I had the Avon Distanzias on it, and I think these Scorpions are about as dirt worthy as the Avons were. Meaning not very much at all. Decent on gravel, not so good in sand. I managed to remove the chicken strips on the Scorpions on some nice fresh pavement I found though! |
