getting insurance for riding 'round Europe?

Alas, I wish it were me right now but I'm asking this for a friend....he's not YET a member of the asylum.

A friend from the States, who also holds French citizenship, has picked up a lovely red BMW 1100RT.
It's registered in the UK (it's another friend's bike) but is physically in Germany...where my French/US friend is picking it up as we speak (as I write).
There was some confusion about insurance and it turns out that some is indeed needed.

Can any of you help with some suggestions/ideas/leads for him for the next 1-2 months?
Cheers all!
