terminal velocity it is 3 minutes if it is only 120mph.
if in fact it was in a glide it would be about 17 minutes. at 270 knots on 12:1.

We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating; the GS handles in ways a two-story building was never meant to.

Taking collections for Faye Butler Training please spare some change.

I don't believe that the US Navy nor the US Air Force currently flies any long range seaplanes, so I doubt if the Brazilians do either.

The abrupt loss of everything, including pressurization, is what brings to mind a catastrophic failure, the kind that precludes a controlled descent.

The RAT powers control surfaces, certain hydraulic features (landing gear/flaps?) and "Flight critical insturmentation". So I'm thinking if it's powering all that and the instruments than it should have enough left over for a radio.

In an attempt to be smart with a calc:

35,000ft / 5,280ft = 6.628mi above water

Lets say the plane was falling 200mph (nosedive maybe)

60min / 200mph = .3333min per mile

.333min per mile * 6.628 mi = 2.21 min to impact.

Based on my terrible math I'd say it probably glided a short distance before outright breaking up or diving in.

Off the top of my head, I can only think of the Japanese and Chinese still operating large seaplanes.

I know they've experimented with ground-effect seaplanes, but I'm not aware of any that are operational. I'll check google.

"From avherald.com

"New information provided by sources within Air France suggests, that the ACARS messages of system failures started to arrive at 02:10Z indicating, that the autopilot had disengaged and the fly by wire system had changed to alternate law. Between 02:11Z and 02:13Z a flurry of messages regarding ADIRU and ISIS faults arrived, at 02:13Z PRIM 1 and SEC 1 faults were indicated, at 02:14Z the last message received was an advisory regarding cabin vertical speed. That sequence of messages could not be independently verified."

An advisory regarding cabin vertical speed?

I read that to mean, wholly shit this thing is going faster than it should in a vertical manner.

Ditto. That's the way that I took it too.

And 4 minutes after the autopilot disengaged. Nasty. They must have been fighting it.
