Massages ... funny you should mention that, DolphinJohn. Two riding couples that I'm developing a custom ADV route for have requested that I include days' end accommodations that will provide just that for their women folk, though they assure me these women are tough as nails. Almost hate to say it ... but oh my heck, I'm finding that such places are out there!

Hi Byways, A couple of crazies and myself are looking for a 2 week ride in late July / early August this year. Your route looks like an excellent idea. Nice and remote, lots of flexibility, and not too much slabbing it to get to the start. We will be riding two 990R's and a 640ADV. I'll send you an email to purchase the route. Just one question: as we will be leaving from the Aspen CO area, can we link up with the route somewhere around Meeker? Or would it be better to head to Steamboat or Grand Junction? BTW, I met you outside the gas station at Dinosaur, CO IN 09. I was riding my orange 990ADV up to Canada to start the CDT, and you were heading south to meet up with friends to ride a portion of the TAT. It was nice chatting with you. Thank you for putting routes like this together! Cheers, Dave
Oh my gosh, T.O.! I sooo do remember you! Amazing that we can reconnect through the asylum herein. We visited roadside. Your bike was new then, as I recall. A beater by now, I'll guess. Ha ha ha. I'm still on the same ol' KLR. Meeker would be perfect; right on the route. But "crazies ..." Heck ... this is an "asylum," is it not? Nobody normal in these parts ... Shoot me a note to: backcountrybyways at gee mail dot com It'd be fun to visit by phone, too! (Tho I'm off scouting in Wyoming sometime next week.) Cheers!
Ill be back to experience this adventure again. They only route I desire to ride more then once! Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk 2
Hi Byways, I'll email you today. I'm getting more excited about this trip every day. Only 6 weeks to go. You are right. That bike was pretty new then, but after 40,000 odd miles (including CDT, TAT, AK etc) it was time to send it to a new home. I loved that bike and ended up with a almost new 990R last year - which I promptly proceeded to introduce to one of the local deer population at 70mph near Moab:eek1. All is well now though. Looking forward to talking with you. If you are ever in the Roaring Fork Valley area, hit me up for a place to stay. Cheers, Dave
T.O., it was so great to hear from you. You'll be on your way soon ... Can't wait to welcome you to Idaho Falls ...
Backcountry Byways LLC is pleased to donate a free license to Heart of the West ADV Route to support Westfest 2013, in Buena Vista, Colorado. Some lucky prize-winner is going to get the ride of a lifetime ...
I wanted to thanks Tony for sponsoring the WESTFEST RALLY in Buena Vista, CO and providing a free copy of the Heart of the West Route. I have been following this thread from the beginning and I feel it is one of the few true "adventure" rides you can do in the US. It has it all; isolation, scenery, challenge and the distance to see so much of the western states. I was hoping to do it next summer, but...life happens so it is on my radar down the road. I have done the CDT and just from what I have seen I think this route will be 100 times better Thanks again Tony, I hope I can do this ride in the next few years. Ben
If anyone from back east...namely Pennsylvania, would like to do this give me a shout. It looks awesome, but not something logistically I could pull off on my own in a 2 week vacation window.
This is one of those "once in a lifetimes" and well worth the effort to make it happen. For me the two week trip to ride the entire route was vital to the experience as a whole. It's more then just a motorcycle ride off the paved roads. Much more here. This route provided slack-jaw scenery, solitude and western history that not many have seen. For instance Huegel routes you past the actual "Parting of the Ways" on the Oregon Trail. Not the false one out on the paved road most others, including some locals, see and think is authentic. Oregon Trail, Pony Express, Trans Continental Rail Road, John Wesley Powell's Echo Park and more. You won't get bored. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Coming from you, COXR65L, that is high praise indeed. The ADV community owes you a great deal for all the work you put into Westfest and building our community. Heart of the West will be ready when you are ... And a shout out to PA! Don't feel like you have to do it all in one trip, Rockinrog. Or even in one lifetime! Since it's a loop, you can take it in fun-sized chunks. Lemme know when you're ready. But there is great merit in the vision and accomplishment of Dockingpilot, who led the first riders to take on what was then a new route based on an evolving concept: extended "total immersion" backcountry travel through the landscapes that define the American West.
Post 109 ... PA inmate planning break out to flee west ... seeking co-conspirator ... Anybody need a partner?
'Rode this route last year with my son, and had so much fun that I'm doing it again this year, with company, in my Jeep, early September. Tony's new route looks good and we'll have some new scenery. I know, bikes only here, but I have to give a boost to this ride. It's terrific.
