Yep, he had to change his plans about Inuvik after the offshore ice blew away as seen in the photo below! :eek1 He also hired a local on a snowmachine as an escort.
Sjaak Left Barrow Alaska and has ridden the ice and now "landed" in Deadhorse. His final destination will be Key West. He wants to be, and I believe unless of some failure during the remaining portion of this trip, the first person to drive from the northern most town in the US to the southern most town in the US. It has been quite an adventure with a lot of setbacks along the way. This has been quite a trek for him so far.
He's posting on Facebook. I thinks it's Sjaak's polar ride or something like that. Clymer manuals is his major sponsor so you can find him there, too. They have a link to his polar ride. He was scheduled to leave Barrow more than a month ago. Took longer than anticipated to get all the kinks worked out.

Yep, he made it in last night I hear. I stopped by the hotel this morning to look at his rig and talked with him for a couple minutes. Here's the rig: Check out the Little rear tires, all the way to Florida? The one-off rear tire is not doing so well, its a 7.00-16" custom knobby retread onto a Firestone Deluxe Champion tire (a vintage replica) Bob the C is giving Sjaak a hand, I hear they've found a 7.50-16 snowtire that one of the tire shops is going to shave the edges off a bit and hope it'll fit. They are also going to do some welding to strengthen the trailer hitch. My shop is full at the moment but if any Fairbanks ADV'ers can lend a hand, shop space or host Sjaak overnight contact Bob Coleman at 9786715, or PM him here or post onto Sjaak's FB page. David
A huge Thank You to Solarmoose and AKBOB for lending some local support to Sjaak. There is a reason you two were first on my list to call! Big up to the Fairbanks ADV crew!
