Saw this a few weeks ago and it's got me thinking. There are some places on my bucket list that I want to explore where a Jeep would make more sense but I don't want to leave a bike behind either. And you can't get permits for more than one motor vehicle imported into Mexico at a time. Answer: license a Jeep as an RV. Florida would do that with some simple modifications. Mexico will allow an RV to tow a trailer with a motorcycle on it. Hmmmmm ...
I love that concept and think they are uber cool. However, I think they are $7-10k! :eek1 I'll get a more versatile roof rack for $1500 and a nice roof top tent for $1k and still be able to use the soft top.
About $6K although they make a larger one for about $10K as I recall. I like this because that entire rear section can be removed. One day you are an RV, the next day you have a Jeep by removing the rear section and replacing with another rear section. Or canvas. Spending some time in the Yucatan and Belize are on my bucket list. Mexico will give a person a 10 year permit for an RV and allow you to bring in a second vehicle if it's with the RV and I'll bet that I could finesse that if I can get a Wrangler licensed in Florida as a camper. Anyway, it's a thought. Giving me some serious thoughts about investing in a Jeep as part of a "system" of vehicles, that's for sure.
Yeah, but your orange thing has those bitchin' Rubicon stickers on the hood that mine seems to be missing
Let's see, drive my Rubicon through Mexico. Now that'd be a RELAXING experience I've only ever been in Guanajuato state (the safest state in MX) and I wouldn't even want to drive it there:huh
"Safest state" varies from year to year. When I started riding Tamaulipas was as safe as a house; now I admit that it's pretty dicey in some areas there. Ditto with Nuevo León and Monterrey. Today there is zero trouble in Yucatan; you just have to get there first. Mexico is beautiful and 99% of the people are super friendly. Even today, travel during the day and find a secure hotel for the night and you are fine. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
DukeRyder - Awesome pics. Going to be doing a trip to that area as soon as I can get my trans issue ironed out. Looks like a great time.
My old Jeep at the "Crack" in Moab.. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/bksgsvegas/5130824350/" title="The Crack...Moab by vegas1200gsa, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4091/5130824350_f7ce32be54_z.jpg" width="640" height="394" alt="The Crack...Moab"></a>
My old 76 CJ7, right now it's getting a SMC/4spd/t-case transplant, oh and paint, wind shield, tires, seats................. to all you with boys, never let then in your jeep.:huh
So I've read here and elsewhere about issues with the 3.8L V6 in the 2007-2011 Jeeps, but does anyone have a sense for how prevalent the problems really are? Is this an absolute stay away from engine? We're looking at Unlimiteds and the options seem to be either 3.8L or something out of our price range.
My $0.02, don't waste your time with an 07+. The 3.8L ain't anything to brag about, infact I remember reading something about it regarding oil consumption. Something about it being perfectly normal for that engine to burn 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. Also there's electrical bugs here and there that Chrysler still hasn't seemed to work out.
