Cool beans! I need a new crew to run with. Seems my style is a little underappreciated in certain circles. :lol3

    Alright, here's the deal...

We'll meet the 3rd Saturday of the month. We'll avoid chains. Keep it reasonably priced. Spread it around. Meet fairly early, say 4:00. Try for variety so no BBQ 3 times in a row, etc.

    Here's the schedule...

    8-21-10 at 4:00PM

    Strattons

    295 South Main Street
    Ashland City, TN 37015-1611
    (615) 792-9177

After 38 years this Ashland City landmark
is closing Sept 1st. This may be your last chance to eat there. This is a true classic 50's style diner which gets rave reviews.

Care for some company? You may need some help changing your oil or something.

Sunday the 18th it is. Let's pick a time and place to meet that is NOT in Columbia. How about the Mercantile in Franklin at 8? In days of yore I would have said Puckett's in Leipers Fork but since the fleecing on my last visit there it will be a long time before they get any more of my money. Or you can pick a spot. I'm cheap, but I'm easy.

    Franklin Merc. BZZZT...
monday - wednesday [7am-3pm] thursday - saturday [7am-9pm] Sunday [closed]
    100 4th Avenue North, Downtown Franklin, TN 37064 615-790-9730

There's a Puckett's in Franklin as well. More restaurant, less trendy "old country store". I'm good with anywhere...The Sunday afternoon part is where the difficulty lies, but I will always try to weave it in.

So Puckett's has kicked you out too? I told you about that bathing thing. I know...it keeps the bears away...but it's strong to people too. Once a week is all we ask.

Thanks for getting the food thing going! I'm in so far for this first one. Gonna play the ride by the temperatures, but at least in for the feedin'.

So, I've never been to Puckett's. Ridden by but never stopped for some reason. Are you saying that it's gone up scale now? Guess I screwed around and missed it.

In a way the same thing happened to the Loveless. Since the new owners took over and expanded it they're doing a booming business but the vibe has changed. Its morphed from a small local gem to a crowded tourist stop. Somehow the foods not as good either. Still pretty good, but it used to be "jump up and smack yer mama" good. First, the biscuit lady died and I guess going from 2 or 3 old ladies in the kitchen to a staff of 15 will change things.

Which is one of the things I'd love to see with this dinner thread...try and hit all of the little mom and pop treasures before they disappear.

Yep. Puckett's-Franklin has gone...well...Franklin. A tour-bus stop. Touristy-feeling. Etc... food is okay, but nothing special.

The reason for the title namesake is to accomplish just that. The kind of places you're talking about. Like Wendell's Meat-n-Three in W Nashville. But more out of the way.
