The slow lane is the left lane on California's I-5 -- go figure!

Gee, I was under the impression that the speed limit was the same in all lanes. Silly me!

That road on weekdays is tolerable. On weekends it is a dangerous place. Many trucks and trailers supposedly adhering to the 55mph truck and trailer speed limit thanks to CHP. Mix that with the left coast nazi's who feel they can drive a fast as they choose in the left lane and it is a not a place for novices. And of course to add to the mix the occasional frustrated grand prix driver want to be doing a slalom in traffic at high speed. It is not patrolled by the highway patrol heavily except on major holidays, and then you see the CHP infrequently. Occasionally I end up towing a 28 foot trailer on I5. Caution is the only way I can describe driving that road. The real nut cases pass on the shoulder, I have seen three wide, not four wide however.

We live about 50 miles from that road. Governor Moonbeam will not expand it to three lanes, nor the nut cases in the legislature, in spite of efforts to remove them.

It is enforced in Texas, and when I was in Germany it is one of the most enforced. pull out pass and GTF back over.

    Not in California!!!! lol
Only place in the states you'll get high beamed and a ADV salute for going 85mph in the fast lane.. I've ridden/driven from Orange County to San Diego and back (75 miles) 1000's of times never going below 80-85mph and still soccer moms in Suburbans and every Jonny racer will BLOW by you.. I mostly stay in the #2 lane (from the center) and still get surprised when someone passes me doing 100mph all day long.

I read an article once I think in Car and Driver and the author said the only way he could explain Interstate 5 in Southern California was comparing it to a 8-9 lanes across NASCAR race. I've lived here my entire life so it's just normal for me, but it is funny when people come to visit for the first time.
