    Amazing numbers.

8488 RNineT's? Doesn't that seem astronomical for a niche bike with collector-status aspirations?

I'm also impressed with the moto culture in other countries. France and Italy each have populations of slightly less than a fifth of the USA, but they absorb roughly 2/3 of the bikes we do.

My other obsession is Triumph sports cars, and I can't help but compare 15,000 BMW motorcycles sold in the USA in 2014 with 14,000 TR6's sold in 1974, the best year for that model in the USA. Considering that BMW motorcycles don't rust nearly as quickly as a TR6, we're going to have a large inventory of these bikes for a very long time.

I always laugh when people talk about the R9T as a "collectable". Great and fun bike, but it will never really be worth more than it was the day it came off the showroom floor!:deal

    Put into perspective:

Unfortunate. This means BMW Motorrad will continue to charge high prices for the GS with more plastic, lower quality and treat customers like chattel.

Look at it from a half full perspective. The RT recall and buyback was voluntary. The fuel strip extended warranty. The switchgear recall.

I am no fan of BMWs past practices but maybe there is hope on the horizon.

Yes the prices are high and will remain that way. At least the resale is good on the boxers.

The numbers are interesting but I'd like to see them sliced and diced according to buyer demographics and country-by-country category price points, rebates, inventory channel numbers, and ad expenditures by market category. It would also be very useful to see the financing and default stats. I wonder how non-US sales will fare in the face of a falling Euro. Finally, let's put BMW's numbers into context; how did Triumph and KTM do?

The conventional wisdom is that BMW faces a long term challenge in the US of pivoting from an aging (and predominately male) customer base to a younger and more multi-cultural/gender balanced purchaser. It would be fascinating to look at detailed sales and financing numbers to see if this is true and if BMW is making headway.

I'll email BMW...I'm sure they'll get back to me soon. :lol3

    K bikes? G650 bikes?

Just curious, (I'm not trying to start anything), but how does this compare to Harley or any other luxury company?

I believe that I have seen it somewhere to be around 6.500 to 7.000 but now I can't find it. R1200GS is the number one seller for BMW in the UK too.

K-models and G-models is the rest. I have added the number above. No details in the press release. Maybe the sales numbers for the K-bikes doesn't look that good anymore.

Often press releases only contains the good news :evil

Interesting. I never would've guessed. But the scooters really count for a majority of that like you stated.

I was more curious about makes like Triumph, Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Harley (which has been answered), etc.

I know. It was just to mention that Honda (I believe) is the largest manufacture of motorcycles.

If you look at the motorcycle marked for bikes over 1000 cc then HD and BMW may well be up front.

Sales figures down to marked and model is hard to find in the big blue cloud.

My initial post was just to note that BMW is selling a lot of GS motorcycles and that it may partly be the reason that they sometimes can seam a bit arrogant and their dealers hard to negotiate with. As some have noticed. Not me.
