Well the bikes are all loaded in leepic's car, He is taking us to Bristol, we leave at 5:30 so we should beat the DC traffic. Hopefully we will be in Bristol at noon if not a bit before. We have secured a room at the Lodge in Tellico Plains so no camping on the first night.

We have mapped out two routes, one all side roads to the Dragon and the other would be highway to Kodak and then back roads to the Dragon. Then back roads to Tellico Planes. The last bit of the route looks about like this.

esp41 has never ridden the Dragon so it will be a treat for him. I just wish we were not doing the Dragon on knobbies..

The Spot will be tracking starting when we leave in the morning so you all can see our progress.

I was hoping I would be able to do this ride this summer but it looks like work has gotten in the way, although theres still a small glimmer of hope that I will at least be able to do part of it late this summer. Guess I will have to live vicariously through your trip for the time being. No pressure or anything :D
    Have a good time!!

so is this gonna be one of those whirlwind 500 miles a day blasts across the country or more of an exploration of the many regions you encounter along the way kinda tours?

    NO!!!

We don't have to be back till July 30... We will be taking our time and a few side trips to see the sights. After planning this trip for 3 years we are going to savor it as much as possible for as long as possible.

We can't wait to hit the dragon later today...

awesome!! then i'm in. especially when you get to OK since its not far from where i live in southern KS. actually i'm not sure where the TAT runs in OK since i've never seen the maps. BTW, i recomend a little jaunt thru the Gypsum hills west of Medicine Lodge, KS. it's quite a site and many dirt roads thru them.

That spot tracker is just too cool. I'm following along! Keep that battery charged on that thing - if you stay put in the middle of a canyon for a few hours, we'll know to send search and rescue!

Me and a buddy are planning on doing the same thing. Shooting for the trip before either of us turn 40. It's coming up quick!

Will be checking out this thread as I hope to be riding the TAT in a few years. Very interested in how the 690 does on this ride. Don't think I want to ride the TAT on my current 500.

So I'm on my lunch break heading up the parkway back to work and I spot these two with their buddy unloading their bikes in a grassy lot in front of a strawberry stand. There's some good karma for ya, what are the chances of crossing paths right out of the gate? I pulled in and asked for directions to Port Orford, introduced myself and wished them well. Watch out Tellico, they're on their way!
