XB12X Picture Thread

I had 37,000 when I picked mine up. Just about to 50,000 now and it hasn't skipped a beat. Love this thing.

Are those Pelicans cases on a Happy-Trail rack on yours?

So many chip seal tar stains on my rear wheel from this trip; from the quantity of tarry pebbles I had to detach from everything, I am surprised my belt survived it.

The cases and rack are from Carabou. I don't think they make them any more for the Uly.

My son and I on my new to me 2008 XB12X

Is there an appreciable difference for 2008 and later? I thought the later bikes got some of that sorted, especially the bearings issues. I ask because I am strongly considering it as my next bike. Thoughts?

The biggest changes in the '08 and newer bikes are a larger big end bearing in the crank, revised cam bearings and bosses and higher output oil pump. These mods were originally developed for the XBRR race program to improve engine durability in race apps and were adopted for production motors in '08.

Also, on the '08 and newer bikes, changes were made to rake angle and triple clamps to allow a tighter turning radius while still maintaining a 4.8" trail dimension. 4.8" of trail is pretty generous and makes for very sure footed handling. If not as quick steering as the XB Lightnings and Firebolts, the XB12X Ulysses is still an extremely sharp handling motorcycle. One of it's more endearing traits, imho.

+1 I'm also curious how you like the TKCs.

I have ridden the TKCs on a 1100 BMW GS and they work amazingly well on the pavement, a little weird at very low speed as you can feel the individual knobs of the tire. Off road they were incredible.
I am going to put a set on my Uly when I get my hands on a spare set of wheels so I can switch back and forth between the TKCs and PR3s.

Well I've done some pretty wild riding on the new TKC. After 400klm I slashed the sidewall and had to trash the tire. The reinforcing belt only covers the center patch of the tire. The case is thinner than I was expecting. Be careful when riding on very sharp loose rocks. The second tire I now have fitted is lasting. It seems prone to cuts in between the knobs. I think the knobs are probably too far spaced and expose the tire case too much. At high speed the bike gets a weave going with these tires but I probably should not ride that fast on knobs. So far mixed feelings about the TKC. Lets see how it gets on over the rest of summer.
