    I must be honest, but I am more than happy with that, my bikes normally run at about 7.2 to 8.5 litres per 100. Maybe my right hand is a problem?:D

    That's pretty much exactly my stance on the bike as well. I'm looking at it as a touring dual sport that can handle fire roads, gravel roads, and some two track at most, intermixed with crappy tarmac, sweet tarmac, and instate hauls if need be. And I think the 800xc will definitely deliver in that regards.

    Now mind you, I'm sure it could "handle" some single track as well ..... I've gotten myself "by accident :D" onto some single track / goat trails with my AT and it "handled" it. And the AT is 530 lbs dry - and using 1992 technology.

    Regardless - I think the 800xc will perform more than just adequate for the type of terrain I would take it on. Which would be stuff like this;

    I sat on the new Tiger at the Cleveland IMS last Sunday.
    I have to say that I was a bit disappointed.:cry
    However I will have to reserve judgement until I get a chance to ride one with gear on and all...
    I found that the black fairing ridge that wrapped around the bottom of the tank hit my knees uncomfortably. I adjusted the seat up and took the peg cushions out which seemed to help a little bit but unless the rumored tall seat is a good bit taller I think I would have to modify the fairing piece to suit my long legs.

    It might be the case that it may be more common for people to "lose" it.

    Probably a Charcoal canister ... and as suggested .... easily lost. Just be sure to re-route/block off/remove the extra hoses correctly to avoid problems. (stalling on hot days, flooding)

    I'm thinking the stock set up has some sort of One Way Valve on the open end of the hose in question.

    Overfill your tank with excess fuel and the canister is easily overwhelmed and excess drains out the hose in question .... but nothing can go the other way.

    The canister absorbs vapor too. Pretty useless system over all IMHO. People spill more gas at gas stations in day than a charcoal canister absorbs in ten years.

    I never thought I would see charcoal canisters again. I remember when they appeared on cars in the 70's. Everyone pretty quickly figured out they were useless. I dont know of anyone that actually serviced them. Most were left in place as a visual to get the vehicle through registration but were cleverly bypassed.

    I called my dealer this afternoon in North Carolina to put a deposit down. While on the phone with him, his Triumph rep. called and he put me on hold. He came back on the line a few minutes later and said that according to the Triumph rep. my black, 800, ABS would be here late March or early April. So not a solid build or delivery date, but still pretty freakin' excited! :D

    A guy on one of the other forums says that his dealer spoke with Triumph USA's VP of sales, who told him that the first shipment of bikes is headed over in March and is already sold out. Apparently the guy was emphatic that ABS bikes would be in this shipment along with non-ABS ones.

    Hopefully this info is accurate. My dealer missed the meeting because his flights were canceled due to the snowstorm that hit the Northeast last week, so he was not able to get confirmation himself.

    As far as I've heard, Triumph is planning an official North American launch for the Tiger 800/XC on March 25, structured the same way they did the Sprint GT one last fall (ie, each participating dealer will have at least one bike for people to look at and possibly test ride).

    I'm sure the motor can get a few more ponies, but also bear in mind Euro regs; 94bhp halves to 47bhp, which is the new limit for riders under 24 in Europe (effective in 2012, iirc). So they've thought more about how it rides as a 47bhp bike than how it rides as a 100+ bhp bike.

    Someone also questioned the 62mph limit on knobbly tyres; 62mph is 100kph, a common limit in metric countries. Plus, I'm not sure when I would ever exceed 60mph off-road anyway..
