Cape Clear island, south west Cork, June 2014. That's a camp site in the south harbour. A basking shark of 15'-18' came in to feed and hung about for around three hours. Some swimmers felt compelled to join him, as did some folk from a sailing boat moored in the inlet (the guys in the inflatable kayak). I personally wouldn't have entered the water with him, but it made for great photos and made national news (http://www.independent.ie/irish-new...ining-bathers-for-a-dip-in-cork-30362447.html). I just happened to be working on the island, and walking past as it was happening. With a good DSLR. And a long telephoto lens. And a fully charged battery. And an empty memory card. Happened again in June 2016: Drone footage in Cork harbour: For those unfamiliar, basking sharks don't eat humans. The dorsal fin is similar in shape to a great white's, and they share similar body size and proportions, but considered harmless.
