Holy shit! When did that happen? I know that I've been out of the loop, but I didn't think I was that far out.

    Hey Guys,

I was thinking of doing a DS ride next Saturday or Sunday (12/1 or 12/2).
Th good old loop we always do. Geysers, Old toll Road and over Cow.

That is if Cow is open, it just closed. Anybody up for that?

    Dean

That sounds like a fun ride but too far for me this time of year.
    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
One of my favorite loops from the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:place><st1:placeName>South</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType>Bay</st1:placeType></st1:place> area is up past <st1:place><st1:placeType>Lake</st1:placeType> <st1:placeName>Berryessa</st1:placeName></st1:place>. I&#8217;ll take Old Toll or 175 into Hopland. I like them both for different reasons.
    <o:p></o:p>
I have been meaning to try the road through <st1:place><st1:placeName>Cow</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType>Mountain</st1:placeType></st1:place>. I am on a R1200GS without knobies.
    <o:p></o:p>
Should I take <st1:place><st1:placeName>Scotts</st1:placeName> <st1:placeName>Creek</st1:placeName></st1:place> west of Lakeport to Tucker&#8217;s and Blue Dadge or Trail 17? Or?

    Mudcat,

Scotts will get you to east side of Cow and on to the main fire road. (Mendo Lake Road)
That's probably ok to do without knobbies. Sometimes early in the year the dust
turns to cake frosting mud after the rain.
However, I was up there two weeks ago and it was like a supermoto track.

As for trail 17, the section that runs between trail 15 and trail 24 is fine on a
big bike. Right now though I wouldn't do it without knobbies, too slippery.
And don't do the section of trail 17 between trail 24 and Mendo Lake Road
on a 1200 unless your a real good rider and want to trash your bike.

For big bikes trail 13, 15, and 20 work pretty well and are fun. Without knobbies
or at least aggressive DS tires wait until those trails dry out a little.

    Hope that helps.

Yes Fellas we have moved to Gardnerville NV. Without going into personal details life threw me/us a curve ball. We will miss Northern California and all the friends we have made over the years. We will be back now and again as we have family still there.

If you are ever up our way Tahoe/Reno area drop me a line. We have two spare rooms and lots of free trails just down the block:evil

    Ride safe!

Rode thru Lake County last weekend. Good ride. Started from Sonoma to Oakville on 29, took the Oakville crossing to Siverado Trail then Butts Canyon to Middletown. Onto 178 towards Cobb Mtn, followed Bottle Rock Road to 29 again ended up on Highland Springs road rode the dirt and mud for a while until we got to a hill with large rocks. I've just had my GSA for two weeks, so we turned around, found the road to Hopland Grade then headed back south to Sonoma. Nice ride, beautiful weather, will do it again, I'm sure. Probably even follow Highland Springs road to the end next time.

I think you were on 175...

Highland Springs Road with large rocks? That's a new one to me. My recollection of that road from June was that it's pretty easy and graded. Sure you were on the right track?

I imagine after the 5-10 inches of rain we just got, Cow is closed? I'm in Redwood Valley and often ready for a few hours of trail riding in our back yard. Let us know the status if you go up there. NOAA says sunny today and tomorrow, then rain again.

After this much rain Cow is going to be closed for a while. I'd say two
weeks from experience, that's without too much more rain.

You can always check this link.
If the gate in the picture is closed so is Cow.
