At the tail end of last year, having ridden across Central Asia, Mongolia and Siberia I found myself in Japan with the winter rapidly closing in. Unable to return home through Siberia, I found a freight ship to send my bike eastward which is how she ended up in Los Angeles. I spent the earlier part of this year at home, saving some more money to continue so now I'm back and find myself riding from LA to Louisiana via Labrador. I know some of the ADV riders, meeting them on the road in Africa, Asia, South America etc and have stayed with Burnszilla and his wife as well as meeting up with Colebatch in Mongolia, but I realise I should perhaps properly introduce myself. I'm from Cornwall in England and ride Thelma a 1992 BMW R80GS, she's got over 165,000 miles on her, which is a bit of a conservative guesstimate as I seem to make a habit of breaking speedo clocks in remote places (I'm on my third). Although this journey won't be as adventurous as most of mine, I'll be updating my progress and looking out to ride some of the TAT after Labrador
I'm trying to get to grips with posting some pictures but it doesn't seem to be working for me - do you guys have one of those foolproof guides to how to do it on here (hmmmm, maybe I should be re-phrasing that). Anyway, I'm off to the George and Dragon (on a borrowed 1100GS) for a swift half to see in the weekend. The pub is marked somewhere on my GPS locator map- it's the only way I find my way back there.
This might have something to do with it Tiff ... "How to post an image" ... http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=919
All that riding and you're finally here! Looking forward to your travels, stop by if you're ever close to Charlotte, NC.
I trust you are financed enough this time not to be shaving your head? <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ia2NsuVZBms&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Ia2NsuVZBms&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Tiffany, you should've headed South from Japan, not East. Oh well I look forward to you getting down here one day!
Hey Rob - you missed me the last time I was there - I crossed Oz 12 years ago on Thelma - I love it over there, even the Nullarbor was fine! Now that I have a bit more off-road experience I would love to give it another try and explore a bit more, but not sure when that would be.
Shame I missed you twelve years ago but I promise I won't next time you head this way - you are way more famous now so I'll hear about you coming
... I mean when she bumbles down the hallway carrying bacon and eggs into the kitchen to cook me breakfast :) Tiff how many times did you wake me up with the clanging of those pots n pans???
Tiff, I enjoyed our chat at the Giant Loop booth at BMWMOA. I was the oddball with the KTM 990. Safe travels! John
Why do I get the feeling that whatever I say, it will be taken the wrong way on this mostly male forum? Colebatch I wouldn't be casting aspersions if I was you.
