This followed me back to my shop the other day ...and then I found this ...and this really needs to come off of the shelf and be used So I think I need to stick all of this stuff together and see what I end up with.
Ordered /2 tapered roller bearing from www.cycleworks.net and I soon as they show up I can get the front end on. I need to find the stock shock length for the leading link or just modify it for some stock post 70 rear shocks which might be easier in the end. I also picked up all of the sidecar mounts so I can build a simple mounting system.

I few things have changes. Instead of a R90 I have decided to use a crusty 78 RS that I had sitting around. Front end is installed. I still need to do a few mods to the /2 leading link to get it to clear the front engine cover.
Cool project, Chris! What are your plans for brakes? Will you weld caliper brackets on the Earles or find use a drum? How will you mod the brace to clear the ignition cover?
Don't cut the brace off the leading links! Play with different points covers-some provide more clearance than others and you will probably be able to make it work without cutting up the forks. Worst case you can shave the back of the brace, but try to find a lower profile cover before attacking the fork.
For the brakes I will run a very large single disc and yes, I'm going to cut the front end up to make it fit. As easy as I can modify it I can make it original again
I am not so interested in preserving a vintage part as with ruining it. There are a number of /2 front ends around that are no longer straight because they got hacked up and either sprung when the brace was removed or warped when they were welded. There may well be an alternative to gain clearance. Swapping the timing cover worked for me on a /2 conversion project...
The motor sits farther back in the frame on a /2. I have not cut anything yet. I've actually been looking at modifying the /7 frame instead.

More like I've redesigned the frame for my own needs / setup!!! Anyway what kind of rear suspension are you going to use??? I'll speak for all: A lot of us are jealous because pics that you are showing are way beyond our home garage / workshop skills. Want to see more keep posting!!!
