Hey guys, Im going on a trip thru the desert in two weeks on a rented 2010 990. I ride two Hondas back home, 450x/250r, and Im wondering what sort of things to be careful of and keep my eye on? What basic tools would you recommend? This will be my first trip on a KTM so Im looking for some general advice on the bike.

Yeah, but were goona be out in the middle of no where. Plus Id rather fix most things myself. Im just curious as to what small quirks the bike might have.

You posted this in the Thumpers section. You will probably have better luck in Orange Crush which is where all the KTM 990 peeps hang out...
The 990 is about 200 lbs heavier then your other bikes so you'll have to keep momentum through soft sand or you'll sink quickly. You should be able to make most road side type repairs with the stock tool kit but, bring along 3 tire irons if you need to repair a rear flat. Other than that, have fun.
