yes yes I for got to say that. I simply spin it down with my fingers and leave it there. like has been stated if the tire spins on the rim this will allow the stem to lean and not pull out of the tube.

You change 50 tires a day with irons???!!! Wow.
And your boss won't buy a tire changing machine and lets you sweat away with irons? Wow.

Also, for the stem nut I put the the valve cap on and snug the nut up against that. Works well.

I have a No-Mar and I change tube DR650 tires with no problems and I use the bar. I also have the wire wheel raised wheel holders No-Mar sells. I don't really see the problem here? my tires go on without much effort. I lube the tube with powder and I lube the rim edge of tire with the No-Mar paste, it all slides on pretty easily. I found that the bar works best up until the last 1/4 of the tire bead needs to be seated then I use one motion pro tire iron to finish the job. Really is that easy. A bead buddy or the No-Mar yellow thing will also make the job easier to hold the tire from spinning while rotating the bar. If you are struggling back up, step away and revise your technique. Have you watched the No-MAr DVD? it covers a lot of these issues.

Nah, I'm mobile, and do truck, tractor, and earth mover tires all day long. Keeps my ass in shape, too!

We have machines in the shop, but I'm much faster doing it with irons. I spend a lot of time teaching the new kids how to do it the old-fashioned way. Makes them appreciate how easy the machines make things.

Watch this starting at 3:00 minutes. I've always used talcum powder, but will try the grease on the next tire I do.

Success!!

Well after four inner tubes selflessly gave their lives for the greater good of teaching me to change a tire, all is good. I ditched the No-mar after the first pinched tube and used Motion Pro irons on the rest. The rim shows a few scars from my ordeals but what the hell....it's a KLR!

Thanks for all the tips, tricks and hazing...you guys are great.

To the victors go the spoils. I allowed myself a celebratory adult beverage afterwards.

Indeed, you'll never fear a flat tire again.

Several years ago...one of your "kind" saved my butt on the side of I-80 outside of Cheyenne. My work partner and I found that our trailer had a 4 hole spare, but we had 5 hole hubs. A few swings with a sledge hammer to pop the bead, 3 spoons, lots of tire lube, and a truck mounted compressor. Had our trailer back on the road in less time than it takes me to do a MC tire. That experience forever cured me of the self-imposed "need" I felt to buy myself a MC tire changing station...I just worked to get better with the spoons.

I can do 8 semi tires (11R22.5) in less than an hour, in most cases, and I use nothing but the duck bill hammer, some soapy water, and a pair of tire bars.

It's a beautiful thing!

I think I got all my tube pinching out of the way back when I was an avid bicyclist.

Motorcycle tires are just the same thing only bigger, and I've never had a problem. I use three short, blunt tire irons like these.

I guess if you're going to pinch a tube while learning, I highly recommend the $3 bicycle variety and not the $20 motorcycle tubes...
