    I would appreciate your insight(s) about radar detectors for motorcycles. If you look at the ads they are all...."the best." I have absolutely NO idea on what to buy.
    I did see that Adaptive has a bike detector that is waterproof? Is it any good compared to.....?

    Thanks for taking a few minutes and giving me some guidance as to what to look at to purchase.

    I agree...I have the Escort 8500X and it's been great. The thing that I find attractive about the Adaptiv is it's waterproof. Now I'm not a speed demon by any stretch and I wouldn't be pushing it in bad weather but I must admit that I'd rather not have to pull over to either remove or cover my Escort everytime it started to rain.

    For that reason, if I could swap it across to across for a waterproof product I would.

    I've had the 8500 for years. I don't take it off in the rain and so far no problems;
    As a plus you can program it to become a volt meter when it doesn't detect any radar.

    Hrmmm....well I must confess that I've never left mine out there after it and even after that there is corrosion on the power input phone jack connector.

    With respect to the Volt Meter option....that capability is a must for me BUT....I have to use a standalone meter as my 56 year old eyes can't see those 1/4" numbers on the 8500 display...:cry

    Have people had much experience with radar stops on a motorcycle? The only time I was stopped by a cop using radar he realized that he was not getting a return from me it was from a car I was passing :D. He still didn't write me up when I explained how the car had been going very slow until there was a short section where I could pass him. I would think that if there are any other cars around, the motorcyclist could fight a radar speeding ticket because it is so likely that the radar was seeing a larger vehicle. We have several radar operated speed signs around here and I can watch them alternatively lock onto me or onto vehicles far behind me.

    That being said, when I researched radar detectors for my car the two favorites were Valentine, that owners tend to have a fanatical religious belief in and Escort, which does very well in comparison tests, which is what I bought. The local cops around here have switched to lasers. When your laser detector goes off that means if you were speeding it is time to pull over because they already clocked you. The CHP still uses radar and I occasionally get useful warnings of them, but even with X-band turned off, more than half the warnings I get are false alarms.

    Yup.

    That's the "You've just gotten a ticket" alert.

    I have both the Escort 8500 and the Valentine One. I use the Valentine One.

    What pushed me over to the Valentine One side is the Valentines are upgradable.

    If Valentine comes out with some super new more sensitive sensor or upgrades the logic in their software... whatever, you can send it in to be upgraded. The cost depends on the cost of the parts.

    From their website:

    I thought that was pretty impressive.

    Around here, LEO's no longer use radar, it's all laser.. Adaptive has a laser jammer which is the only way to beat being tagged by laser. V1 alerts you, but by then it's too late.

    I thought any kind of detector was illegal in Ontario? (actually anywhere east of Alberta). Don't the Constabulary have radar detector detectors?
