Welcome to the Tent Space Sign-Up thread.

This thread is only for offering place for travelers to stay. Nothing else. Period.

The Tent Space is your chance to share your interest in motorcycle travel with other members of this website.

To offer a Tent Space, simply add a reply to this thread. You should include such things as your location, what kind of digs you offer, can you help fix a bike or change a tire? Your approximate location will be added to the Tent Space map. Please DO NOT include any personally-identifying information (like street address, phone or email). City names and postal codes are fine!*

If you're looking for a place to crash, go to the Tent Space map (located here: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/v...ll=23.867163474379748,-111.29745789999994&z=2) and find someone who's willing to host you. It's best to make contact at least a couple days in advance, but some people can put you up at a moment's notice. You never know.

Contact @Hollyr with any Tent Space questions.

*Posting Personal Information in the Tent Space Thread.

Since 2006 we’ve encouraged people that wish to offer tent space in the Trip Planning sub-forum not to reveal personal information in their tent space offers.

“To offer a Tent Space, simply add a reply to this thread. You should include such things as your location, what kind of digs you can offer, can you help fix a bike or change a tire? Your approximate location will be added to the Tent Space map. Please DO NOT include any personally-identifying information (like street address, phone, or e-mail). City names and postal codes are fine.”

The idea behind this was to help to protect some people that did not recognize the risks of posting personal information on the site. Sometimes people had tunnel vision when they shared information thinking it would only be visible to fellow ADV riders that share their values. They may not clearly understand that this portion of the forum can be viewed by anyone from around the globe even if they are not registered inmates on the site.

We sometimes get reports to let us know that an inmate revealed personal information that might put them at risk. The reports ask us to take down the information and inform the inmate of the risk. We have done that in the past and often received grateful replies from the inmates involved acknowledging that they didn’t recognize the risk when they posted.

The reality is that anyone can harvest personal information that inmates post and use it for their own sometimes nefarious purposes. This could be as simple as adding your e-mail or phone number to various marketing lists or even using your address to target you or your property for a crime. Even one piece of personal information can lead to a search that reveals much more than what you chose to post publicly here.

The practice of asking people to communicate via conversation messages through the site at least offered some information about the person making contact. They usually had some post history on the site that could reveal more about them. A communication that by-passes the site eliminates some of the benefits of dealing with a registered inmate with a presence on the site. Note that many people that use the flea market choose to examine an inmate’s history on the site when deciding whether or not to enter into a transaction with that person.

What probably isn’t visible to many inmates is that the site is in a constant battle to protect people from scammers from around the world that try to score on this site. This is one of the reasons the staff is so aware of the importance of inmates protecting themselves online.

One issue that was raised is that some inmates don’t regularly check in on the site to see if they have incoming conversation messages that might be a tent space inquiry. Inmates can go to “Contact Details” in their profile and under “Messaging Preferences” choose to be notified by e-mail whenever they receive a new conversation message which would eliminate that potential delay.

That said, we do not have a site rule that prohibits someone from posting personal information about themselves – only about posting personal information about others without their consent. If someone chooses to disregard common best practices to protect themselves we probably aren’t going to stop them unless it puts someone else or the site at risk.

There is plenty of qualified advice around about best practices to protect oneself with regard to posting personal information online.

dude this is a great idea. i asked about something like this just over a year ago http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84499 but never followed up.

i'm in nyc (riverdale) and i can offer a couch or thermarest. the place is a studio so don't expect a ton of privacy. but one or two people could crash with no problem. plenty of safe on the street parking. safe residential neighborhood just north of manhattan. public transportation to anywhere.

The old mobile home, an ongoing project that I see no end to :lol2 is a bit rustic...

As a beer camp should be :beer

But with central AC/Heat, two bedrooms and full kitchen/bath.

The floor is uncovered plywood, so dirty feets can't hurt much. A wet vac is for when it gets so bad you can't stand it

There's also a dryer for wet gear, ask Mr. Cob :p

and a washer still in need of being hooked-up:loaded

Just like The Scrub I like to say it's one step above camping [IMG]

Although I do have to keep the place such that HoJo :raabia will tolerate it every so often

Located on 350 feet of rural highway frontage that backs up to the Chassahowitzka Nat'l Wildlife Refuge, the locals on the flood plain refer to my camp as The Hill seeing that it's located atop the first sand dune east of the Gulf of Mexico along SR-50

Saturdays the highway brings a continous stream of boats being trailered to local ramps

And at times there's literally hundreds of Harley riders thundering by, each in search of an ice cold beer at The Bayport Inn :ricky

All summer, bikini clad babes shriek in ecstacy as they pass on their way to Pine Island beach :photog

For additional sleeping there's a 12x12 guest room, The Love Shack in the shed

Both have AC/heat :thumbup An additional shower/comode is in the utilty room

Fried mullet roe and fillets for Johnny Quest :rofl

    Outside Kitchen

Room can be made for bikes inside too if need be

Firepit with cooking grate and plenty of wood

Charcoal Grill and propane cooker too :dg

Even got internet and cable TV now

All amenities are available from groceries to restaurants on US-19/SR-50

Pool Hall and conveniece store both within walking distance :slurp

Closest Bike Shop is KTM/Triumph within three miles; Kawi, Suzuki, Yamaha within seven and Honda is about 10

A local delicacy, stone crab season runs from Oct. 15th through March :yum and we, the local ADVers have been known to eat our fill a few times here each year :dg

I keep a key to the private neighborhood park onsite along with a canoe and kayak. Let me know if you want to paddle the river, truly one of my favorite things :thumbup

Of course when it's cold as a beyotch out there's practically no one that uses the park. The water in the first magnitude spring fed river stays a constant 72 degrees and actually feels warm during the winter once the air temp dips below about 50 :lol3 This is the first privately owned parcel down river from the famous attraction

These guys actually shipped their Urals from Europe

Plenty of good riding in the area, both DS and street :ricky In fact there's a steady line of bikes traveling through the Citrus Game Reserve here by the house at The Farm too.

OK, crap. You FF's can stay here if ya like. My place sucks. Nothing like the great shops and land posted by others. And I am a sorry host. Bring yer own beer, sleep on the floor or in the backyard. My music collection sucks so don't even think of uploading any of it.

I've had a few ADVriders stay here and they all say they will never come back. I don't blame them. But if you need a place to stay at the crossroads of the south, give me a shout.

That would be Denton, Texas. 30 miles north of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metromess.
