Have you had a look on Motobins, or Motor Works web sites to check other exhausts? The Keihan brand is made very well and is cheaper than Staintune.

I may end up just replaceing the collector box with a 'Y' section and building a alloy or stainless can in the style like the system Sibenrock sells, i am looking at mounting at a certain angle and height to work in with a set of Panniers i have built. Just interested in the weight i would save.

I have a new set of the Keihan Torpedo style stainless mufflers ready to fit on a 60/5.

About 3.5 kg is easily doable without resorting to exotic material or high noise levels.
I kept the junction box for performance and noise supression

According to the weights in the parts fiche, your stock system should weigh 21 pounds. Almost 10 kilos.

When I did the refresh of my old R80 G/S I replaced the stock exhaust with a Keihan. I did weigh it. It's in my old thread somewhere. I recall weighing the headers, collector, and muffler separately.

Best Kg/$ for me was a valeo starter and lighter battery.
Tossing the glass headlight and the brass speedo for a plastic headlight unit from Bursons Auto and a plastic instrument from VDO took care of another 1.2 kg

Thanks guys, i think i can get rid of a little weight with the different exhaust, starter and battery. From there i will just ride it for a while to think about what i think my need are going to be.

These guys are in Taranaki and make a lighter replica at reasonable cost.
My OEM unit rused out in 18 month from new.
It was a dead heat between the skin and the internals.

The Musket has been doing duty for 7 years and is still going strong.

Got an answer over at UKGSer that the standard 100GS exhaust system is between 13 - 15kg if thats right i can save between 7 and 9kg by fitting the Steblerock setup. Fit a different starter and battery and i could trim off up to 10kg.

..but that's not right. The weights are all in the parts fiche and usually pretty accurate. The stock system on a GS should weigh 21 lbs or about 9.5 kg.

Thats all i wanted to know, if its 21lb or 9.5kg than thats fine. I googled r100gs parts fiche and looked at 5 and there were either no weights or they were such poor quality you couldnt read them. Some one now has been kind enough to point me in the right direction of what one to use in future , MAX BMW site.

Starter and battery will save you about 4.5kg - bit more with a lithium battery
