Ha, I call mine a KTBMW now. There just did not seem any point to all those crazy expensive "kits" and cartridges and do-da's for the stock fork. How many ways can you modify crap and it is still crap? The WP 4860 are an industry standard for a reason. If you are serious about your off-road, go with these. As a note, since I went 18" (adding 1/2" to height in back) in the rear, I also made a new travel spacer for the front 4860 that has them go to 10" now (stock is 9.2"). This brings the bike back to proper ride height ratio and gain more clearance and travel. I know I added .8" in front, but I made the sag correct and gives me same lift change as rear now. And don't get me started on the converted single caliper/rotor front. Lighter, better, easier. Again, off-road machine
I liked the ChiTown/Lost Rider build but it seems that all the OPs posts from that thread have been deleted or edited down to nothing.:huh It was here http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=675456
You know his spirit is still haunting this section of the forum... Rumors say that if you say his name thrice that he'll eventually reappear Saved some of his pics from his old thread (for old times sake!) Copyright: Lostrider. (Should be able to retrieve the pics from his website: lostrider.com)
It's not the "most" anything and isn't loaded with a lot of fancy parts, but has been built to be the best at aggressive riding and not let me down in remote areas. Probably the single most important upgrade has been the Highway Dirt Bike hand guards with integrated turn signals. These have protected the bike and levers on countless dirt naps and one fairly high speed crash. They also relocate the stock blinkers that I kept breaking off back in New Hampshire. Better still, it provided a mounting point for my Garmin Montana - which is key for finding great trails on the fly. After that and in no particular order: Shiver fork conversion done by me and tuned by Konflict Elka stage 4 rear shock also tuned by Konflict Extended rear mudguard to protect that Elka High Tech Coon Ass throttle device BMW Rallye Seat Cut off pillion pegs and modified them to be removable Heidinau K60 Tires Rigid Dually lights and a custom mount Removed Charcoal canister Pro-Taper Pastrana bar Pazzo brake / Clutch levers Wunderlich adjustable shifter Richochet skid plate Aux USB charging port All this lets me ride aggressively on or off road while keeping the weight manageable. I swap between hard / soft bags as needed. Also built a homemade bike rack to haul my mountain bike around when the hard bags are on.
Hey epicxcrider. Nice bike. Simple and effective. By Enduro seat, I assume you mean the BMW Rallye seat? How do you like it? Any comments on it? I really want to try one out (I like the idea of taller and flater and firmer) by my dealer says they would have to order from Germany, so I'd be stuck with it if I ordered. Apparently I'm the first person to ever ask after one....
Yes, that's what I mean - thanks! I really like the Rallye seat - it is a bit taller than the stock seat but also narrower at the front so reaching the ground isn't much worse than before. Overall it's better, I kept the stock seat just in case but I've never put it back on. Really shines cornering offroad. If you're >6' or don't mind being up high I'd recommend it. I got mine on ebay, they pop up every once in a while.
Well mine definitely not the best but it's perfect for me nearly! Started life as a Lava orange 2010 model. Obviously I painted the plastics black. Woodys front and soon to arrive rear wheel Traxxion front suspension cartridges. Fully adjustable hyperpro rear shock with remote adjuster. Ralle Moto damper Touratech D3 adjustable screen Low Touratech seat Camel Tank Rekluse going in this weekend WOO HOO Etc etc etc! [emoji106]
Does that pro taper bar have the holes and threads already in it for our controls? Also, is it similar to the rise and reach of stock? might have bent my stock bar and they want $250 for a new one...thx
Curious, did those Duallys wreak havoc on your charging system? Can't be sure they have with mine, but their installation and use seems to mesh rather perfectly with my stator dramas.
