Anyone up for a ride tomorrow? Where doesn't matter, I just need to get out and stretch my legs a bit.

Well did 340 miles with 50 miles of dirt

Creeks were a rockin but even Green River Rd. was fine

I am loving my newer Garmin Oregon 300 with Tyre routes much more like it should have been than the first one.

The Vee took one nap in a puddle but was fine.

Accomplished my secret NH mission

FYI If you have anything with a mini USB use the socket sparingly they are physically week.

Here are a few good ones...

I was disappointed we didn't stop at the Molson Brewery in Montreal.


It wasn't ALL gruesome pits of mud. We did a good amount of powerlines, woods single/dual track and snowmobile trail.


You had to walk the crossings like this first to find the surprises waiting underneath, and there WERE surprises.


The sand pit was actually a lot of fun, for me anyway. There were 2 or 3 spots like this.


There was no easy line through this slop hole. Virtually everyone needed some kind of assistance.

Other riders would look at your tire choice, and you'd be like.....

Yes. I didn't pick my bike up once. The tire does best after you wear it out about half way.once you get a wide contact patch, its unstoppable. It wound not load up with mud at all. A lighter bike would have been a better choice for the ride though.

How's DualSpork Captain Al doing?.....is his head light half full of water yet?

Big Bike Ride Adirondacks

This Thursday 6/20

Slab up mostly to the Adirondacks cut over to Old Forge then Tupper Lake

Friday zoom around etc and the T road plus
Pre riding most / all my August Ride

Contains about 50+ miles of dirt roads (not trails)

I had run the Kendas at Pachaug with no issues. They work well in that kind of terrain and wear great on the road with the right psi (32/32)

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE IN THE MUD. Work okay in the sand.

Below are some pics for comparison. Rob's Terraflex Rear and MT 16 Front vs. Kenda Big Block Front and Rear. Same bike, 990 Adventure, Both loaded with about the same weight. Same line, same mud, VASTLY different results. The Kenda DOES NOT CLEAR MUD...NOT AT ALL. The rear cleared only if I had it spinning at a high rate of speed, but the front would not clear at all which means that I could not steer. Any bit of lean and the whole bike would wash out from underneath me. I fought this bike all day (crashed about 30 times). I often found myself going completely sideways as the front went wherever it wanted to.

Kenda BB

I came real close to being headlight deep in a "puddle" on the first day of the Roaming Rally when I slid out in a deep but somewhat average water crossing.. Fumbling for the kill switch or key while you are 3/4 submerged in chocolate milk water and horizontal is awkward at best..


hopefully I have video of that incident as well as others..

@go2cnavy - that is impressive the comparison! Sorry to hear you had such bad luck with the bb's. I guess now the rest of us know what tire setup to equip 990s with when gearing up for mud

I've been following the Roaming Rally pics on that thread. That looks like the event I rode in '72. It was an enduro. Not fun and the reason I went motocrossing for the following 8 years. Are you guys going back to Roaming Rally?
