Probably for radio interference shielding. It doesn't ever get hot, or even warm, so it is probably not a heat sink. I will cut a piece of plexi-glass and cover it completely. It seems that when working on the bike with the seat off the ecu is a good place to lay your tools, which it isn't. JoeB
It looks like the filter is laying right on the bottom and sides of the air box. If that is the case the filter cannot draw air from those places where it is touching. I really like the idea of the filter set up like you have it, but seems like it would work even better if it was not touching. Is the curved red tubing made of silicon, or something else? JoeB
I bought a UNI filter off of Bike Bandit for $17.00. I think it will fit better then the K&N (tell ya later). I think it was listed as universal Pod filter. They have a duel element, I choose the black single element. On the drop down for the size go with 2.25" / 57mm, 6" long centered. I also bought the UNI crankcase filter in a 5/16" clamp type. Maybe next week I can get ur done. Dang work stuff keeps getting in the way. Good looking job on the filter mod. Did you seal the old filter location yet ? curious how it looks.
TRZ Charlie I want to personally thank you for the marvelous job you have done indexing all of this information. I doubt that any of the Husky mechanics have this much information at hand and you have made it so easy for us on this forum to link to any of the information from beginning to present. Thanks, Charlie JoeB
I bought the Uni filter UP6229ST 2 stage pod filter. From silicon intakes I got: Stainless Steel Joiner, 2.25", 2.25 red silicone 90 and two bolt hose clamps. The crankcase filter is from the auto parts store.
Joe B, I'm not the one you should thank. It was "Catskillbill" that came up with the idea. He had indexed things before I got around to linking them. It was his idea, I take no credit for it except that it gave me something to do and I bore easily. Please, take the time to thank him.
Au contraire...You are right to thank Charlie because it is his clickable index which is most useful. It's all I use. With that in mind, we have suggested that my original plain vanilla index be removed from the front page...and put our efforts into keeping the (his) good one current. You guys have no idea what a pain in the ass this is. The indices are useful, though, and we're glad you find them worthwhile.
I have a perfect (I think) new owner stupid question - do we have a list of essential spares, with part numbers? I like to carry with me, especially for long trips, some simple but essential things that might break, such as throttle and clutch cables, wheel bearings and gasket rings, some spare fasteners and such bits and bobs. But I don't have a list of these for the Terra yet. Anyone compiled anything similar?
I just read Gas Gas is buying the Italian motor tech from KTM. I wonder if it includes the TR650 motor?
I haven't been able to break anything yet. And trust me, it isn't for lack of trying. Sent from the voices in my head and transcribed by their drinking buddy...
Doubtful, that is BMW's motor. I am hopeful that if BMW is not too stubborn that we will see the TR motors (and chassis bits) make their way into the GS650's. It is a wonderful motor and would enhance those bikes a lot.
There is an up to date list of BMW parts that share as replacement and interchangeable parts on Cafe Husky in the TR650 thread. I will post a link to it when I get home. It has listings of cables, sensors and a lot of other stuff.
I am considering buying this bike. Problem is, that in Poland all Terras was sold. They have only few Stradas and I was told that this bike will not be produced anymore. These Stradas are with nice discount have abs and from what I found out, difference is only with wheels and front fender. Do you think it's wise move to buy Strada and change front wheel to 21, with spokes. Suspension travel is about the same, geometry, brakes too. Is there adjustable suspension? I just need to make as much offroad capable dualsport from this Strada, is it possible with reasonable effort or changes between Strada/Terra are much serious?
It is perfectly feasible to make a Terra from a Strada. The Terras here in the Benelux are all sold out as well, so the dealers have started converting Stradas to Terras themselves. A number of Strada owners have done it as well. Have a look around on Cafe Husky.
