The BOMBERS have been patiently waiting - and planning for - the release of the NEW 2010 KLIM Dakar and Mojave pants. Because of our prep, we are the first dealership to offer them in the world.

KLIM did not announce the release of new models, they just told customers that "more are coming in in August". However, because of our background in the apparel industry, and our vendor contacts, we figured out new Dakars and Mojaves were coming.

We have placed our order to Klim for these, and will receive a limited supply, as they have not received their full shipment. However, we will fill orders as we can, assist with fit and design questions, and work to get Klim gear for you if we do not have it.

The new Dakars carry the same solid construction and basic features as the 09 models. Most significant is the two 20" zippers on the front of the thighs to allow ventilation when temps coll down. For the 2010 Dakar pants, Klim has stepped up the function of the pants by adding some key refinements. The graphics are a little more subtle and the pants look like they will work better on taller riders. Other changes:

• NEW Leather inner knees: The previous versions used textile, and like all textile knees, they melted when contacting a 4T pipe. Leather is the ONLY material (other than Nomex, which is unsuitable for the knees) that does not melt.
• Improved stretch and Pattern - The 09s fit well, but these use the 1 piece X-shaped crotch stretch panel from the newer Klim Baja and Chinook pant. The fit is much improved.
• NEW removable knee and hip pads: A great addition for ADV riders that do not wear MX boots and shinguards
• NEW 3M Piping - Another feature that makes these more versatile for riders using them on the street.

The 2010 Mojaves look similar to the Dakars, of course the difference is the mesh ventilation. The new Mojaves are much more vented, with almost the entire front constructed from mesh. Otherwise, they use the same basic chassis, with the same improvements:

Fit Info - Being a web retailer, we are very meticulous about fit so we minimize returns. On these, we have not yet completed our full fit evaluation. However, our first observations show that these fit a bit better for taller people and similar to the 09s at the waist.

Availability - We have received out shipment of the new Dakars and Mojaves in the black colorway. They are IN STOCK and we are shipping them from our warehouse. The other colors (Blue, Red, and Orange) will be in stock on AUGUST 10TH and we will begin shipping them immediately. We are always available to assist with availability, fit and design questions.

Just got an update - our initial order will be the black color only, as Klim split their delivery. However, other colors will arrive next week.

FYI we really work at being Klim experts (and for gear in general). When we get them we will pull each size and do our own full spec sheet, so we can maintain a high success rate fitting customers ordering over the web.

I have to say I like the looks of the 09 version much better. As far as the improvements.

I never have a problem with my inner knee getting burnt on the exhaust on any bike I have had.

One reason the Klims did so well is they fit so good, not sure why change something that worked so well already.

Pads, I always remove the pads and wear pads on the body.

3M piping, not concerned with.

Why Klim decided to take the best pants on the market and change them is hard to understand. Do you have any 09 Dakar pants in 36 Black/Grey(green) left??

Where's the Rally jacket?

I have heard one is coming, but not heard anything official. My guess is that if it is, it will be ex-pen-sive.

I hear you. For me, I like the styling about even, but the refinements are smart.

Good that you never had to deal with it, but I burned two pair of Klims so far (they both still work though). OTB pants in general experience this a lot during off road use. None of the fabrics used work as well as leather.

For the padding, I want to see how substantive they are. I personally never use pads in my pants, but a lot of customers were trying to use Klim pants for the street, and asked if they had padding. If they have worked it out so you can wear knee guards under, OR keep the pads in, they will work for a wider application. Also, the piping will be a help with visibility on the street.

One thing that I do respectfully disagree on....the crotch spandex. This is a big improvement on the Klim Baja and Chinook model pants, and I am glad they added it to these. It should improve the fit a lot for off road use.

In general, the changes seem minor and iterative. I liked the 09s but these do address some of the comments I received from customers. It's tough when you find something good, because most gear companies screw it up. Time will tell, but generally Klim make smart changes.

I think the 09s in 36 are completely sold out, but I have a personal pair with 3 rides (also a set of 34s, washed once, but never worn). I will PM you with info.

Is the hip armor similar to that in the Baja's, or is it more substantial? FWIW I didn't find it hard to upgrade the armor with some of the DIY pad sheets that Bohn sells, and I absolutely love the pants otherwise. For me, the 3m piping is a big plus. To get to my trail spots requires a damn decent ride on the road, and often ride at night/dusk/dawn getting to spots, so extra visibility on the road is appreciated. I like the plainer looks of the new ones too.

I'll probably get a pair of the new Dakar's this winter for cooler weather rides. Unless, of course, they're going to be doing a similar update to the Chinooks... I still like ITB pants.

Don't know yet, should know later today or tomorrow.

You can see clear improvements from each new design. The 09 Mojave / Dakars are an improvement over the older Revolt / Moabs. I was surprised, but the ITB Klim Chinook and Baja were actually a little nicer than the 09 OTB pants. Unless they somehow managed to go backwards this time - unlikely - the 2010 Klim gear should be better also.

I talked to a guy at the factory that said one was coming in the Fall. In fact, if you look at the Klim USA website in the dirt section you can see a rider wearing a blue jacket on an orange KTM and THAT is the prototype Enduro Jacket!!

In the meantime, I am wearing a KLIM Valdez. Super nice, but I really want a jacket that is suited for the enduro riding we do!

If there had been leather i don't think this burn off the pipe would have happened. Since the burn, i now have leather on both sides. So, i'm all for the leather.

I like the leather idea, not crazy about paying for pads I don't need. Klim wasn't shy about upping the price for a couple of upgrades.

I know, I know, sorry. FWIW we are pretty aggressive with pricing and have some great deals. Between Klims price structure, their MAP policy, and their....way....of enforcing it, they need to be sold at retail.

BTW, we received our eval pair yesterday. They are way, way burlier than the previous model - a lot of changes. I wasn't thrilled about the price increase either. But I know gear, and there is no doubt in my mind that the price is due to the additional features, not to an artificial bump.

We will do a full spec check on these and post up later.

Placed my order online for some Dakar pants. So far, great communication and expectation setting on the delayed delivery. I am looking forward to these...hoping the padding is at least somewhat useful...

I realy like the look of these pants. How do they hold up on the street? I'm planing a year long ride to South America next year and want something thats going to keep me from cooking in the heat of central america and be comfortable when the weather gets cold in the high mountains in Chile. I don't expect or want them to be water proof (thats what rain gear is for) just want them to breath well, have good protection and fit over motocross boots.

How do these compare to other street style pants as far as protection goes?

As far as price they seem pretty cheap compared to street stuff from RevIt or BMW.

Hello 911, very sorry for the delay. Where in the Santa Cruz Mtns? I am a former Los Gatan, rode a bunch in the SC Mtns, and love that area.

To be clear, I cannot accurately say how long they will last, as they are brand-spankin' new. But they are clearly heavier than the previous version. On my scale, the 09s weigh 2.34 lbs, the '10s weigh 3.23 lbs. Most of this comes from the main fabric, which seems to either be a heavier denier of have a thicker coating or both.

FYI the pads weigh only .12 lbs. I am glad they thought about this, but the pads are marginal. At best.

I would say that they will be better for your trip or for street riding, because of the additional heft. They have the same 20" zippers and a slightly larger rear exhaust vent, so they should still breathe relatively well. It is ridiculously hot here, so it's a good time to check them out.
