Seeking riders for San Francisco to Alaska ride this July/August. We can meet there or along the way.

Thinking a month but can ship the bike and chop it to 2 weeks.

I've done these long, adventure rides many times but mostly in Europe.

Leaving Seattle on 16 June to make the ferry in Prince Rupert up to Skagway. Headed to D2D in Dawson which is on the 20th. Looking to get some people together for camping on the ferry.

Didn,t I see a RR of yours from somewhere in Asia? Mabe a couple years ago? If it was you, I had a good laugh reading it and can't wait to see what transpires from this trip.
July/August weather is usually good up here in the North. I would join you on the trip, but Alaska is only 1.5 hours away, so it would be a short ride.

I already live here but I'm all in for a meet'n'greet with your crew.

I'm coming back from D2D on the ferry from Haines to Prince Rupert on June 27, overnighting the 26th in Haines. I'm planning on renting a cabin in Haines (sleeps 4) so looking for one or more roomies to share cost (very low cost cabin, bring your own sheets!) Also going to camp in a 'deck chair' for the return trip. They still do that don't they? (last took the ferry in '94 so some things have changed.)

My plan is to leave on Jun 14 from San Fran (I live in Antioch), returning on or around July 7. From my reading I understand the weather is best in June and early July with more rain later in the summer. I haven't finalized my route yet. That depends on what my wife decides. She may fly up to Anchorage to meet me for some day rides/short overnights based out of Anchorage. If she does this my route would be to head directly to Anchorage get our riding in, ship the bike home and fly back with her. If she opts out I was thinking maybe the Dalton Highway and a full round trip. Would really have to pound the pavement to fit that in.

Yes you can camp in a chair or pitch your tent on the deck.

I've heard that there are a lot of drunken shenanigans around July 4th so your dates are smart.

mmmm, I did this on a ferry to Ios in Greece 20 years ago, balmy and windy and a hell of a lot of fun!

I've got a spot with the tracker, it would be easy to coordinate using that.

I may have missed it.....usually do miss the important items....lol....
What bike are you riding?
If not a street bike or you are competent on gravel.....research.....Salmon Glacier and Telegraph Creek as must see's. You will pass right by them on your way up #37......they truely are worth the time spent getting to them. #37 you will see more wildlife than at any other location along your trip from what I experienced. I just gave up counting the different number of animals.....so many bears.
You also should research the D2D and think it too would be a great day or two to relax.....an excellent event and Dawson a fantastic Goldrush town with plenty to do and see for a day or two.
Then it's Top of the World Highway into Alaska......more fantastic scenery!
Heated gear is key, also rain suit and the secret weapon a good sized tarp to hang over your bike and at the same time spreads over your tent to a centre pole. This way your bike is never wet to pack your equipment away in the morning, your tent never gets wet, it never gets packed away wet and you can live in the dry, even unpack in the dry once you have set this tarp up as soon as you stop for the night. It is the best way to deal with poor weather locations. Hope this helps. I carry a 16X20 tarp, just the cheap webbed variety and a 6 foot extendable pole, think extended tent pole to keep the opposite to the bike end up.

You will get soaked on your trip and this is a way to reduce this possibility.....

Very good advice on the gear and tarp....how much riding time in Alaska would be sufficient? I don't want to spend all day in the saddle but do want to see everything you mentioned.

All you need is connection to the internet, here see where I was today!

It pings every 10 minutes. So you can see my location, progress, direction and of course there is the GPS to pick a meeting spot.

I've read some other Alaska threads and it seems the most popular route/ferry is ride to vancouver, ferry to vancouver island, ride to Port Hardy, ferry to Prince Rupert, then ride, ride, ride.
