I am working in Thailand during the month of January (Jan 3 - 27). I will be staying in Bangkok. It's probably a longshot but I would love to buy or rent a decent dual sport bike to tour the country side on weekends - doesnt have to be anything fancy - just reliable and a little bigger than the average 125cc scooter on the road there. If anyone has any connections, friends, a garage full of bikes in Bangkok etc please get in touch with me either through this site or directly at kipduke1@yahoo.com. Also, any advice from those who have been before as far as best places to see etc...would be much appreciated. Just spent December in Bangkok so have a slight amount of insight into the area. Looking to get out of the city though. .
Kip, Found these guys: http://www.bangkokbikesrental.com Don't know if they are still in business or what but it may be worth a shot. Maybe some locals can chime in. Enjoyed riding yesterday, it cleared up on us when we hit 400 heading home. Kurt
Hey guys, Merry Xmas and happy new year. Went stateside for the holidays and now back in Afghanistan with a break in July to go to Chiang Mai and Phuket.
Thailand has lots of great roads. As everywhere else in the world, due caution is especially adviced in the more congested areas, like big cities and tourist spots like Phuket. Sent from my GT-P1000T using Tapatalk 2
Yup nice roads in Thailand indeed. I rode all the way from Dannok border in the south up to Mae Sai the nothern most town in Thailand. Almost 2000kms of mixed road.
Didn't your mother tell you? Motorcycles are dangerous! That said, Thailand has some fantastic roads, stunning scenery, great food, very lax cops, and fun nightlife. Just be aware that Thais probably don't drive the way you're used to. Use of turn signals and mirrors is a bit of a novelty, you'll often share the roads with dogs and buffalo and who knows what else, drunk driving is still very popular, and you have to expect the unexpected. Happy Trails! Tony
Hi folks, I and my wife will be in Bangkok from 17-24Jun2012 and really want to have some day to ride in Thailand. Hopefully I can have 2 or 3 days at the end of my trip to go. Anyone could please advise: - How and where should I rent a bike? - Should I bring with my own riding gears? - What is recommendation roads and places to visit for a short trip 2-3 days? Thanks! Viethorse.
If I had only a few days to do it, I'd fly to Chiang Mai. Lots of bikes for rent, and even more of the most wonderful roads on the planet not far away. But I guess this is already the rainy season, so that might affect things more than a bit...
Taging this on here instead of starting a new thread, Is it hard to get small runs of items made in Thailand, some small stainless plates water-jet cut or however they cut them in runs down to about 200 - 300 and some small items machined from HDPE same thing again runs like 400-500 that sort of thing. Just sick of knocking my head against a brick wall here in Australia trying to make or put together things i need without it costing an arm and a leg. There is also some textile products i need making up, nothing to over the top and it would almost be worth me buying a small industral sewing machine if i could find someone that could use it and provide them with some sort of part time job. Where do i start, how do i find a contact. Hope i havnt offended anyone asking on this thread. Cheers.
I'd check on one of the expat forums. http://teakdoor.com/forum.php I know a few members there have contacts in the manufacturing arena. The main issue you will likely encounter is the initial difficulty in communicating what you need. I might search out a logistics expert there in Bangkok as a starting point, to find someone with the equipment to make what you want.
I have been in Bangkok for 5 days. I rent a bike (Kawa Versys) for a day trip out of Bangkok tomorrow with fellows from gt-rider.com . 24hrs to go. Anyone join?
Anyone willing to welcome three riders flying into BKK the first week of Jan. 2013? We are staging for a three month ride tour of Thai, Laos, and Cambodia. We'll seek you out and buy you beer either way...
I might be back from Peru by then. I'd be glad to have a beer or two. At any rate you should hook up with the rideasia crew in CM, if you dont know about them already. Are you bringing your own bikes or planning on renting?
Hey BP, Already posted the plan on Rideasia. We'll rent the standard whatever-they-have bikes when we get there. Any suggestions for a trio coming into BKK for the first time but all arriving at different times. I may be the first in so I'm thinking I should have a hotel reserved. Are you right in Bangkok?
I'm in Peru now but when in bkk I stay at the Rompo Mansion which is off the tourist beat, but still near enough to everything. It has a really nice pool and work out and steam rooms. Many people prefer the Kao San rd scene. I don't care much for it since it's off any easy mass transit routes. When you arrive grab some thai money from an atm and head straight for the ground floor where the meter taxis are. Ignore any and all taxi touts, they will charge 5 times the meter taxi costs. Have the phone # for your hotel handy. English will be very limited. Since you're going to be there 3 months start now learning a little Thai online or with a cd and phrasebook. A little Thai will go a long way.
