Possibly a broken wire leading to the grip. I would check the wiring for anything obvious and then put a volt meter on the plug that the grips connect to (behind the headlight mask). If you have 12 volts there then its a faulty grip or wire leading to it.

The wires to the grips are constantly in motion/vibration so if they weren't routed properly they could fail. This happened to my air temp sensor wire.
