I do eBay for a local shop.
My favorite mechanic asked me for ideas on a 'strom with a bad vibration between 2-3k rpm.

What is the minimum operating speed on these to avoid lugging?
    Might an atre help?
Are atres interchangeable between newer SVs and DLs?
How about tps or tbs adjustments?

He is lugging it down too much, the vee's engine likes to rev a bit. There is also a dreaded stumble between 3000 and 4000 rpm's that come from needing to pass EPA. A tbs will usually help some but the real answer is a power commander.

+1 on the power commander - I'm pretty high on the RPMs on my DL, usually shift after 5k

Or a Yosh box treatment. I did it to two vees, mine and a buddy's, with very satisfactory results.

my DL1K really needed the revs to be kept up over 3k rpm to be happy, 3500 was even better.

Riding this bike down around 2k is just not a recipe for happiness.

My biggest issue with my '04 DL1000 was the clutch basket. It absolutly HATED 3500 rpm.

While riding it, hold it steady @ 3500 rpm. Then slightly pull in the clutch, but do not disengage it completely. If it smooths out, its the clutch basket.

With a new clutch, and a very conservative PCIII FI map, its a different machine.
