I have 2013 990 baja and run the stock wheels off road and a 19/17 combo on the highway. I am contemplating cutting an inch off the side stand because it is too long when running the 19/17 combo. It is difficult to get off the bike as it is too upright and almost tip over when on the side stand. If you are loaded with luggage it Iowa too long. Has anyone modified this? How much to take off?

Yes, I have done this when I lowered my bike. Pretty easy if you are good with a welder. BUT.. if you change between the stock wheels and the 19/17 wheels you might want to consider an adjustable side stand which uses a lengthening bolt/nut in the middle for quick changes (requires a wrench). One of the guys here in ADV makes them. Do a search.

I do the same wheel swap, so I made the stand adjustable.

First cut the stand, press a nut inside and weld it in:

Then do the same to the base with a piece of all-thread, make the foot bigger at the same time:

Put it back together with a jam nut and adjust it for both sets of wheels:

You can try adding a few washers on the bottom two bolts of the relocator to change the angle...cheaper and easier.

Do you have a photo? Don't you need to unscrew these bolts to remove the adjusting washers and remount the screws? Isn't that more difficult from Pabiker's solution?

    Cheers

The way Mr Snips is talking, it becomes a non-adjustable shorter sidestand and just leans more when on the 21/18 wheels.

So instead of cutting the sidestand, he repositions it, making it shorter to serve both wheel configurations.
    Cheers.
