The Thing About a Liter Bike ...

The thing about a liter bike is this. It's like a transporter from Star Trek. It enables you to bend and manipulate the commonly understood properties of time and space, traffic-wise.

Example, you're merging onto the interstate. In your car, you think to yourself, "If I speed up I can get to that gap ahead of the car next to me." With a normal bike, you start to think three, maybe four cars ahead. With a liter you are suddenly thinking to yourself, "Hey, I can make that gap fifteen cars ahead!" And off you go. Opportunities appear that you would never even consider on a typical bike, much less a car. Like someone said about lane-splitting, "It's like time travel, only it's real."

Power enables. And more power enables even quicker.

Just what it enables is entirely up to you.

Time travel might be possible with a liter bike, but somehow I still can't outrun the Motorola....

I feel you. the first day I rode my liter bike, I learned what it actually feels like to go through one of those warp speed tunnel visualizations in scifi movies. and goddammit, it sure is hard to watch the traffic periphery when everything in your vision goes timebent :eek1

There are days I miss having a fast bike.

And having that fast bike may make you miss some days.

its a like having a superpower..... this is why these dammed things are so addicting; you get a different kind of superpower with each one. Because my "superpowers" on my 525 are way different than my "superpowers" on the Speed Triple

My first truly time-warp experience was on an acquaintance's '84 FJ 1100. I had ridden quite a lot by then (my story to me and the key holder of the FJ) and had convinced him that I was competent enough to tame HIS beast.

Both of us were just barely right about the sufficiency of my skills.

Bike between legs, I rode along a very familiar route near Crown Point in San Diego. I'd taken many cars down that route, including a BMW 635i which, at the time, was considered quite fast. Heck, I considered myself fast and able to tame the wildest speed machine.

The bike proved my skills otherwise. I remember accelerating like hell from the first mandated stop, thinking I was in control, and found myself begging for grace when I approached the next governed sign. This scenario played out a couple more times until I returned to the shop and gave the keys back to the owner.

"Nice bike!!!"

I came back in one piece, but I have not, yet, forgotten my first time-warp!

My first time warp was the first time I realised my brakes had completely failed when I completely needed them.

Never had one so big since.
