Here is a bit of a photo review of our 2011 riding , once again most of it comes from Coastal B.C.... Lots of winter this year as it ran late.. We spent quite a bit of time riding routes to be used in the TCAT. Our first attempt to ride to Winter Harbour had us turning around due to road conditions... Studded tires would of helped here... A few weeks later and the road was much improved... A shame they clearcut part of the trail to the big Spruce.. The Western end of the TCAT takes in a short hike to the beach.. And the open Pacific... Some local riding in Feb Upper Nimpkish Valley and spring was looking early, but then it switched back to winter.. The snow came down to sea level for a while and then melted... But the temps remained cool so the Island mountains received a whack of snow while it rained at sea level... View from my house looking toward Vancouver Island.. A trip out Atluck way... The Nimpkish railroad Reload and logs bound for China... Avalanches work like conveyer belts piling up huge amounts of snow forming a mini glacier... Being turned around by deep snow was a familiar theme... This truck had became stuck and I could see the drivers footprints as he walked out.. View of Broughton Strait and Alert Bay... f
Ted picked up a near new 640 and on his maiden voyage learned that you should always be prepared... Nice campsite on Johnstone Strait South of Sayward.. We like to do a late spring ride to Tashis, some of these pictures don't look too springlike... A bit of sun worship on the Vernon beach as it finally has some warmth to it... This is a relatively low pass at around 2000' but the snow really piles up here over the winter.. Made it.. The road to Broke-leg Mountain. f
Camping and riding on the south Island, exploring routes Port Alberni Pachena NitNat campsite On the way to Cowichan Nice camping spot near Alberni, forgot the name... Comox Lake Victoria Peak This bear provided some entertainment... Once again I had to turn around because the pass was snowed in... f
2 weeks later the pass was open... Johnstone Strait This is near the end of July and this pass was still snowed in at 2500'... Didn't get enough camping in this year... came across this contraption in the woods... North Island Ride The little folding saws we carry saved us from having to turn back at this obstacle.. A bridge stop Riding with Squonker Not a safe practice, but we always seem to stop on bridges to enjoy the view... Conuma River f
One of BCs best riding areas... Pemberton Meadows Seton Lake China HD Trail Shulaps Range Ranchlands Met these 2 on Pavillion Hot and dry, so different compared to the coast.... This was the start of my favorite part of the ride... We spent about 3 hrs following a trail that was barely visible in spots and looked like it would peter out and have us backtracking... We just continued on and in some spots just guessing at what was the trail... It became a quest to get through and eventually we did but because I was so engrossed I didn't take any pictures after the cabin, something I regret... Hurley FSR Pemberton River on the way home... f
Hey, this is a thread that I can jump into Awesome pics. That is some nice riding in that area. Here are some pics from the North.

In mid August we rode up to the center of the Island and stretched the legs a bit.. The weather was less than ideal prompting a shorter day than planned.. Rain kinda spoiled this day a bit... Returned to this mountain on a sunny day... It was quite a different day than the first trip with clear skys and +25c temps.. Vancouver Islands rugged landscape..
Took my son up to Raft Cove On the way up we met Hellsickle and his better half honeymooning all over Vancouver Island Great day at the beach... On the trail back to the bike... A bit muddy from the wetter than normal summer... f
Gunnerbuck, Thanks for posting this! HiVis Dennis and I really loved our trip up the island a couple of years back. Your photos show just how long and wintry it got this year. Port Albernie up the Comox Main, Atluck and the beauty of the Nimpkish need to be revisited. Thanks again, Dammitdave
We managed to get another camping trip in at the beginning of October between weather systems.. Gearing up for an afternoon ride n hike... Rode up as high as we could in the Prince of Wales range and then continued on foot... Nice timbered slopes on the way up... And then into the alpine... On Vancouver Island the alpine often starts between 3000' and 4000'... Enjoying the views... Most of October has been pretty crappy for riding weather this year ... f
