Apparently there is a work around. http://www.twowheelsblog.com/post/4789/yamaha-xt1200z-super-tenere-how-to-disable-the-abs But I remember seeing something at the launch of the Tenere that if you hit the rear first it would disable the ABS.
I've never understood the need to get every last bit of discount that you can. If you like the bike and want the bike, is it worth all the hassle to save a couple bucks ? Just buy it....
I'm pretty sure that if you walked out the door and the dealer didn't make another, lower offer, he is at the bottom. Sounds like a good deal to me. If you keep pushing you're just going to piss him off.
+1. That's a good deal, especially if you wanna keep a relationship. If you're talking about the engine guard and centerstand-mount 'em yourself-easy to do
As soon as she got on the back of the 990, she said "No way!". I wasn't really into the general seating position. It just didn't feel like a place I wanted to spend all day. For sure, it's a great dirt bike, but, I'm not that hardcore. Well, that's putting it out there. And, I've met women like that. Usually, they're married to someone else. Her complaint was that it's angled downward, too much. I don't get why designers always do that. She saw the nasty looking Corbin and it piqued her interest. However, there's no way would I put that on any bike of mine. I'm signed up for Sargent's T800 release notification. If it looks anything like their Super Tenere offering, it should be perfect. We'll see.
That's a deal you need to take. I wouldn't jeopardize a potential "relationship" by pressing any further, on the bike. Though, there's, usually, at least a 10% discount on accessories purchased with the bike. You may casually ask. Either way, I'd still go for it.
Nice, thanks for the link, the Versys seat looks great too. I agree that the stock seat is pretty good. It feels great when I first sit on it, but like I say, after an hour or so, it just feels too compressed and I can't find much relief with repositioning. It's not nearly as bad as my stock SV seat was, I get uncomfortable on the Tiger seat, but I was in outright pain on the SV. I got a Sargent after that though, and even though it didn't have that much cushion, it was a huge improvement. I would still get uncomfortable on the bike after a while, but that was due to ergonomics, not my butt. The ergos on the Tiger seem to be pretty sorted out, so now I just need to take care of my gentleman's area and I should be good to go. I'm on the email list for Sargent if/when they get their Tiger seat made, but if that takes too long (or is too pricey), I might just have to get DIY with it.
I have heard the gel seats are terrible. I recall seeing a picture of one that the owner disassembled to try and alter some and the gel padding was just big enough to be able to call it a "gel" seat. I just sent mine out to Spencers yesterday, I'll post back once I receive it and actually take it for a decent ride. It's been mighty chilly here lately. As far as DennyMyBoys OTD price. That seems real good to me. As far as knocking the accessories down, I think the dealer is keeping them at MSRP because he is selling the bike so cheap. Hard to have the best of both worlds. When I bought my Tiger almost 2 years ago I paid full MSRP on the bike because they were hardly even in showrooms yet but I got a healthy discount on the accessories I bought with it.
Actually the gel seat is much better than the stock seat but it's still not good enough. I bought the rider's gel seat to have as a spare and to use while my stock seat takes a trip to Russell where it's enjoying a rebuild as a Russell Day Long saddle right now.
I agree, it doesn't take much to be better than the stock seat though. For me it's a groin killer after about an hour. I hadn't heard great things about the gel seat so I didn't want to waste my money on that. I've had good luck with Spencer on another seat so I figured I'd give it a shot for only $75.
The Corbin does look good but my experience with them hasn't been the greatest. It seems they like to have the rider positioned near the rear portion of the seat usually. That puts me further from the bars than I'd like. Maybe if I were taller that would work out okay. I always thought Corbin would be great if you could ride in to them and have them build the seat while you wait there. The seat was quality, it just didn't work out for me.
I couldn't stand the stock seat so I sent it off to Baldwin Motorbike Saddles to be reworked to my specs. Memory foam and gel insert. Loren does great work but it's not inexpensive. This is by far the most comfortable seat I've ever had. It's a bit on the fugly side but I'll trade that for comfort.
They both look like they'd collect a puddle of water if you parked in the rain on the centre stand. My current solution is a simple AirHawk.
And that's exactly the direction I am leaning toward. Short day rides are good on the stocker for me. It's the 800 mile days I have trouble with. Seems the most reasonable solution for me.
