I was told yes for my R80gspd but it does not. Going to require welding for proper fit. Other may have had better luck. I ordered R80 solo seat

One went for just under Aus$500 on Ebay UK about 4 weeks ago . Almost went for it .. but I had just bought a 22 litre top box for my RS ... Plus I like the option of being able to put someone on the back ... But YES the 3/4 do look dead sexy
Does it require welding for the seat to fit the rack or for the rack to fit the bike? I just bought a new OEM luggage rack and am looking for a seat to fit it.
The welding will be to reposition the lock in tab - needs to move forward 10mm. I'm thinking I'll use some flat bar, machine slots for adjustment. Aggravating to need to do this. Other disappointment is quality of vinyl. I haven't had the privilege of sitting on it so can't say if quality of materials caries through to foam. Doesn't seem to interfere with factory racks.
I got motivated. This is my very first weld project, wish I'd shaken the photo a bit. Overalll I'd describe the build quality of the S Meyer solo seat as China. I've hopes of some long distance on this bike so seat is going off to Renazco for foam and cover. I'm going to have too big a chunk of change in it, maybe I'll learn not to drink and ebay. First, detach misplaced prong. Then learn to weld. Next, handy chop saw. Factory Fit And you will need to custom fit to eliminate massive slop up front. I used closed cell foam and shoe goo.
I knew this would happen. :huh Busted the lock after 4th or 5th ride with solo seat. The seat has mounting brackets but the bike (84 R80gspd) is missing counterparts. Ideas on retrofit? Anyone else run across this?
Yep, the lock doesn't eliminate the pivoting of the seat. You'll have to run some angle irons off of the bracket that houses the seat lock. I welded the nut on the bottom of the bracket for ease of assembly. I'll take a pic when I get home. I brake the angle brackets about once a year.
Nice example. Looks like I could do that without melting metal. Are you guys using fasteners to secure seat supports to your customer brackets or is 'gravity' the retainer. Wondering for seat pop off ease ?
I'm using some Ace Hardware sourced bolts that have plastic knobs on top and will be welding nuts on the bottom... Going to fab up some new, more respectable "L" brackets this winter as well.. Here is a solo seat on my R90 cafe made from a BMW S seat cowl and a piece of aluminum for the base. Simple and clean.

I did it the other way around, I welded some bolts facing up, using threaded knobs to hold down the seat/rack. That way if I lost a knob or it vibrated off during a ride, the seat would still be pinned and not slip off.
