Ok now I'm on 80! The most amazing thing was that no one was in front of me the whole ride on 80 until I got to the dam. Just me, the bike and all those curves . A couple of shots to prove I was there.
Ok, Sunday is a near perfect day to ride - but I got to go home and mow the lawn and other great things of a domestic lifestyle. So I jetison at the dam on 251a. Of course it's under construction and I wait and wait for the light to change. One lonely car makes its way across - still waiting ... finally it changes and I'm off to roads far more traveled.
I've got the rest of this mapped out on Google earth. Just have to find some time to finish what I started.
That's awesome, Jet, the Versys and I would love to come along as you map this out. Run into any Mary Jane growers along the way? That is my biggest concern when exploring off the beaten path.
Didn't see any growers - but that might change as the route goes into South Eastern Oklahoma. :eek1 I did see a lot of deer - but no close calls. Would be great to have some company next time I venture out. This was something I was kicking around at the pub crawl and when Sunday turned out so perfect I just had to get out and see what the first leg was like. It turned out better than I expected so I just had to share. If I get some time I'll clean up the rest of the route and see if I can post it.
Hey, i can't quite make out the bicycles in this pic, but if you like forgotten roads, grab one of them and throw in with us on Oklahoma Freewheel next month. Bicycle ride from Southern OK border to Northern border. This year's route is just about as far east as you can get. http://www.okfreewheel.com/archives/2010/fw2010.asp#Route
Hmmm. Not my intention. Was simply trying to point out the best way i've found of discovering some of Oklahoma's hidden backroads.
I think you mistook Motard92's comment to me for not inviting him as a slam against you ??? No real offense from/for anyone. Thanks for the bike invite. I'll check into it. BTW - the bikes are Treks.
Subscribed. I'm interested in how the rest of you're route turns out. I live on Wister lake wich is about 20 miles north east of Talihina and travel to Tulsa quite often.
According to my calculations it ended up being a 500 mile trip. JumpJet and myself left Tulsa at 7 AM . Then we took back roads and dirt to Kinta and then to Talihina. After that we hit the Talimena scenic drive. We left Arkansas again on Talimena, but by Wilhelmina SP we took a shortcut to 270 to 59 to Poteau. Then Sallisaw, Muskogee, Porter, Coweta and back home. It took us 14 hours what means that our average speed was only 36 mph !! DR650 with a stock seat is NOT a very good long distance bike. I'm very sore I'm sure JumpJet will put it in better words and he will give you all the details as soon as he recovers from the "Revenge of a Water Crossing 2" :eek1
