Well, could be. As we never know when the penalty is apllied, Marek's could be a new engine (for which he would have got 15') and the change to Despres used, 4th gear only would have got him another 45'. In that case he would still be with Despres original engine (without 5th???).

That is why I thought they activated the WP again by turning for fuel or anything alike, messing with the timing

Hmm, if he changed with Cyril that's 15mins then changed again at the rest day (nice fresh factory engine for his trouble) that'd be another 45mins making 60 mins overall. Sounds as though you're right. :nod

I'm guessing that giving Dabrowski the engine with the broken gearbox was a sacrifice that everyone was will to make. He said himself that he wasn't running the Dakar for results anymore since his shoulder had started to act up.

Yup, the way I see it the following happened:
    1) Dabrowski and CDP swap engines during the marathon giving them both a 15 minute penalty.
    2) The day after the marathons Dabrowski swaps out the broken egine he got from CDP the day before for a new one (one of his own or a donor engine from the KTM factory - I don't know) and receives another 45 minutes totalling 60 minutes for Dabrowski.

Had Dabrowski changed his engine before the marathon stage he would either still be running on the broken gearbox (since he is listed with 60 minutes penalty) or he should be listed with atleast 120 minutes penalty for that third engine change.
