I hope it's ok to start a new thread on this topic. It's taken me a while to decide that I am confident enough to get a new bike here in the Middle East where it's already dangerous to walk outside, let alone ride. That being said, in a past post I was stuck with dealers who wouldn't order me a wee strom, and that and the kawa dealers are all at least 40% more than back home (US), while the 800 is about 16,000 USD which includes two years of service, no upgrades. I had therefore decided on getting the 800 AS MY FIRST BIKE EVER and after saving money I've arrived at this cross roads: It'll take about two and half to three months for the bike to be delivered if I order on the next shipping date (every three months) and the season for riding here is at best October-May, so by the time it gets here it'll be 45-55 degrees and I'm not interested in that kind of riding. So THE POINT: when is the 2014 f800s coming out? And does anyone have any ideas or rumors as to whether it'll be a worthwhile wait? Thanks, sorry for asking the unknown, but if anybody has an answer I'm sure it'll be here.
Inelastic, the F800GS is a cracking choice, I should know - I ride the 2013 bike. It's not been updated more than.. 6 months ago? You are pretty safe that you'll not be missing out on any drastic changes in a 2014 bike, just pop your order in and get excited pal. Only now are third parties finishing adapting and creating products to fit the '13 model, so you should be right to spec her out with aftermarket gear without any waiting if that's your plan. BMW have tried to sort out some niggles from the beta-testers - er, sorry, first gen F800GS owners so you should be looking at a pretty sorted motorcycle.
Haha, I wouldn't want to be a beta tester now would I? Thanks for the insight, valid points you make.
I bought my 2010 in October 2010, and the 11's were just showing up at my dealer in Las Vegas. I would imagine they keep the same schedule, so maybe around that time this year..
Thanks xxxshiftxxx for the comment, I'll look at the scheduling again. The annoying part I've found is that the prices don't change the further one moves away from the release date. I'm glad to know though that you got yours as the knew ones came out and didn't go ape shit. Thanks again.
Or you could buy from the factory and ride it across Europe, then keep riding around the edge of the Med or ship... It would be an adventure!
Definitely not. I guess I was unfamiliar that 2013 was the new design, doesn't seem like it changed much since 2010...but ur motivating me in the right direction so thanks!
You are right! If it were not my first bike I would do just that, unfortunatly that's not the case. Also, the Middle East is having a rather bad "tourist" season...careful how you pronounce "tourist"
It may well be worth waiting to July/August as this was when they released the details of the 2013 800GS and you could order the 2013 spec bike than as well. Don't know what but keep hearing rumours that something interesting is being announced than, have no idea what it will be though!
:eek1 damn it... But that is a reasonable wait, at least to know if the updates are worthy... I'm just trying to stretch my $$$ like a Romanian gymnast if the new ones are the same price and all....thanks for the info, do u have any links of said rumors?
Just been talking to a few people on the trade who have hinted at interesting things, as to weather it's GS related I don't know. Don't know how much they could update the next 800 but who knows!
LMAO! Well it sounds like you're still able to make light of it all and enjoy life amidst the mania, so more power to ya brother! As for my couple bits of copper-coated zinc: I just hit 2,400miles on my '13 and I am LOVIN' IT. While it's probably true not much will change on the '14's, if they did change anything structurally, the delay time for farkles is definitely something to take into account.. there's still 2013-specific parts that only recently came out and are still on back-order, so even if you waited all that time for the '14, you might be stuck waiting again for updated farkles.
