I am very new to the whole GPS thing. A few months back, I picked up a NIB Garmin 76CX. I have played with it a bit and was able to load a track to it. The track worked fine, but there are no roads listed.

I am guessing this is "Basemap". I would like to add something like City Navigator, so I can use this GPS to to more than follow tracks. Will I need the CN software pre-loaded on a MircoSD card, or do I need to buy the CD/DVD version? If either will work, pros and cons?

Get it on DVD, that way you can load it onto your computer. Buy another uSD chip and load the new map on that via Mapsource or MapInstall.
